When i was going through the cordinate geomentry in the following link

math-coordinate-geometry-87652.html
I had a doubt there mentioned a few lines like this :
1. If the slope of a line is negative, the line WILL intersect quadrants II and IV. X and Y intersects of the line with negative slope have the same sign. Therefore if X and Y intersects are positive, the line intersects quadrant I; if negative, quadrant III.

i dont understand the second line X and Y intersects of the line with negative.......quadrant III

Bunnel can you please explain me whats the intended meaning of those lines

Hi.. here are my few cents..

here are two scenarios:
1. a line with negative slope and passing through Ist quadrant
2. a line with negative slope and passing through 3rd quadrant

These are the only two possible scenarios.

Now in case 1: line will cross +ve y-axis and +ve x-axis so both intercepts (what you mentioned as intersects) will be positive.
In case 2: line will cross -ve y-axis and -ve x-axis so both intercepts (what you mentioned as intersects) will be negative.

Hope it clarifies.

Best Regards,
Mansoor

PS:Please consider kudos if it was helpful

x intercept means when line touches x axis i.e value of x when y=0
y intercept means when line touches y axis i.e value of y when x=0
