A few on here have told me that it may be in my b est interest to look into hiring a consultant for the application process. Where can I find some with good reputations? How much do they generally charge?

There are many admissions consulting services available. There is a separate sub forum on GMAT Club for admissions consulting. Off the top of my head I can think of ClearAdmit, Veritas Prep, Stacy Blackman, Amerasia Consulting, Sandy (HBS Guru over here) and Alex at MBAApply. You might want to go to the forum and check stuff out there.
