BusinessWeek international b-school ranking [#permalink]
14 Nov 2010, 13:15
http://www.businessweek.com/interactive ... _1111.htmlThere seems to be some dubious data in here. Firstly, I wonder where they got the acceptance rates from? They don't disclose the source but usually non-US bschools don't publish this. For example, HEC Paris has the lowest of all international b-schools with 14%? Far lower than LBS or IMD? Very unlikely. And how can HEC Paris have a higher average post-MBA pay than INSEAD? To me this seems like either b-schools are using very different criteria when gathering stats are they are simply providing BS data. Where are Asian b-schools like ISB, HKUST or CEIBS? There are only Canadian and European b-schools? How can they then call this an international ranking? While the data in the US rankings appears much more trustworthy (but the rankings themselves are also way off) I really wonder what's going on with the international rankings. Why even bother... Thoughts welcome.

At least by ranking INSEAD at #1 they bring some level of sanity to their international rankings credibility (as opposed to ranking Queens #1). Now if only they move LBS further up Also HOW they rate teaching LBS at B whereas teaching at IE and Queens at A+ is beyond me. IESE is also ranked way too low - it is by far the best spanish school.

I also think that some small figures are not accurate (or just don't make sense), but the overall rankings seems credible to me.

[NEED SUPPORT; PLEASE HELP]
While choosing B-schools, should I also take care of the attached university ranking? Will it give me any further benefit?
For instance, UBC ranking as a university is very good world-wide which may give me an ultimate brand value while networking (though it's B-school is in the last quartile of Economist and FT ranking). Whereas, U of Western Ontario is pretty much unknown to the world as well as unranked university, and maybe has far lesser number of Alumni worldwide; but it's B-school students really have good avg salary, employment rate and such. And, Thunderbird is not at all under/with any university and run independently.
I have narrowed down my focus B-school list to 15 which are well fit with me as long as career, interest, mobility, teaching quality and facility are concerned. However, now I am planning to make the list even narrower maybe to 7/8. I want to choose a B-school with a good balance between university ranking as well as the ranking of the the school itself. But, I will leave this if B-school means B-school only, and university ranking and renounce has nothing to do with it.
Please, help which focus should be given more weight.

This is why I am really looking for advice on the Technion Start-up MBA in Israel. The program is new but the school has a really great reputation for research, technology and innovation. I am aklso very familiar with their bronica institute which has helped many of the Israeli startups. This program doesn't take place in theiir Haifa campus though - it's in Tel Aviv. Has anyone heard about their new Sarona campus? I am interested in discovering Tel Aviv so I think this is a great opportunity but also want advice on how the technion is perceived around the world. Is their program worthwhile? is a degree from the Technion Israel Institute of Technology an internationally recognized degree? Please let me know ASAP since they only have 40 spots and I want to apply quickly so I am considered.

I'd depend rather on the FT and Economist rankings which aseem a lot more realistic.
