The modifier "By analyzing the advanced olfactory apparatus of Pleistocene chordates" cannot refer to "a link between ..." because "a link ..." cannot analyze anything.
"By analyzing ... " should modify sb who can analyze the advanced olfactory apparatus of Pleistocene chordates, such as paleontologists in option A.
For instance

The first option is right because you can study sentence correction, whereas the second option is wrong because a GMAT cannot study

Answer choice A is definitely right.
As mikeCoolBoy has already explained, choice A is the only one that places the noun modifier "by analyzing...." right. This modifier modifies the noun "paleozoologists". As you know, the "touch rule" states that a noun and its modifier should always touch each other. All other answer choices include misplaced modifiers.
However, there are other criteria as to why the other coices should be avoided:
B - ...has been discovered by paleozoologists (you should avoid the passive voice) C - ...there is a link that.... (wordy) D - ....was made by paleozoologists (again passive voice) E - ....the brain’s regions...have a link (not correct) & was discovered by paleozoologists (passive voice)

Yes, choice A is the best here. The phrase before the comma is intended to modify paleozoologists.

adarsh12345 wrote: i have a doubt in answer a what is the subject of "its" . it is referring to brain but its can not refer to brain's . pronoun error . Hi Adarsh, By analyzing the advanced olfactory apparatus of Pleistocene chordates, paleozoologists have discovered a link between the brain’s regions of scent discrimination and its regions of long-term memory storage, a link that could prove invaluable in the treatment of amnesia victims. In this sentence possessive pronoun “its” correctly refers to the possessive noun “brain’s”. The sentence mentions “brain’s regions of scent discrimination” and then it mentions “its regions of long-term memory storage”. If you were to replace “its” from the second entity, you would replace it with “brain’s”. Hence, the pronoun reference is absolutely clear here. Hope this helps. Thanks. Shraddha

Why the answer is not B can any 1 plz explain I quickly eliminated B,C,D and E just by looking at the suggested word before "a link that could prove invaluable". This phrase should be appropriately modifying "the link" stated in the sentence. B ends with "pateozoologists". This cannot be the link that could prove invaluable referred in the sentence. So, we can also eliminate D and E. C ends with long-term memory storage which is also incorrect. A seems to be the only good phrase to link to the sentence. paleontologists have discovered a link between X and Y, a link that could prove invaluable..
