I go with E

powers (plural) needs plural verb make
and ofcourse a group instead of as a group

I think D is right. we can eliminate A,B,C because of "powers".

D is better than E:

D: make his letters (as a group) the rival of
better than E: make his letters a group - which is the rival of

1) we need a plural verb

D for me too . ... make is required because of " powers "

and between D and E ... D is better make his letter as a group ... is better

Between D and E, (D) is much more concise and reads smoother.

Can anyone please explain me what is wrong with E?

as in D can we say "make letters as a group"??

(E) make his letters a group which is the rival of

Here it says, the group is the rival. That is not the case. It is actually the letters that are formed into a group that is the rival.
Hope this makes sense.
