Calling all [[Michigan (Ross)]] 2008 applicants... [#permalink]
09 Aug 2007, 07:23
I have not officially decided to apply but one of my fellow managers went to Michigan and has almost convinced me to apply. From everything I have read they have pretty decent placement in IB. Not sure how good they are for real estate IB though.
710 GMAT 3.6 GPA blah, blah, blah...we are all great in our own ways.
Cumulative R1 & R2 stats. 22 Admits out of 37 applicants ~ 60% admit rate Frigging Awesome performance!!!

I'm applying, its one of my R1 schools. I like what I have heard about the program so far, the only thing that concerns me is whether my wife will be able to find a job in Ann Arbor.

This was one of my concerns as well. From what I have heard, Ann Arbor has not been under the same economic downfall as the rest of the state. He said that she should be able to find a job there. We will see. He graduated there so there is a little bias.

Added to the Pants Poop thread...
as for your wife her finding a job, what she does really makes a difference. I am not even looking at it even though there are programs there that really interest me because my wife would never find a job there because of what she does.

R1 applicant here. Love UMich- very underrated school IMO. Kind of interested about the MAP piece. Extra internship sort of thingy seems like.
720 GMAT, 3WE, Indian, Commercial Finance (Credit Cards), IIT, MS from Big Ten.
Only thing I dont like is that I would be torn between rooting for the Nittany Lions and the Wolverines if I get in...

I think it is underrated in the eyes of applicants for being a state school and not in a large city. However, that is their loss. It is a great school as shown by career placement and cosistency in it's ranking by various publications.
On a side note, do you think being an SEC football fan will hurt my chances.

They have a great football stadium that when filled is known to create an electrifying atmosphere.
I am a big fan of Michigan football. Let's see if the BCS is kinder to them this year.

Luckily my wife wants to stay at home with the kids we don't have yet after MBA. So, she is not conerned with career progression until after kids are two or three and then she will re-enter job market.
We just need her to get a job somewhat related to what she does in order to pay for living expenses.

You can describe your experiences as an SEC football fan for this essay question:
"Describe your experience during a challenging time in your life. Explain how you grew personally, either despite this challenge or because of it."
How you came to the realization that you hated Ohio State and that Michigan being the arch enemy should be the ideal match for you.

Yup, my wife does specialty chemical sales (sort of sales and engineering, she provides technical engineering support along with typical sales type stuff). So first I will see if I get in, and we'll go visit and see how we feel.

I think Big 10 fans would be surprised at the atmosphere of SEC games...i don't think any conference has a better asmosphere than SEC when you think of TN, GA, FL, LSU, Auburn, AL, and SC. All seat over 85k+.
However, i am not considering any SEC schools for the MBA...not the best academics. Maybe attending UMich would change my perspective.

Good luck to all of you. Eventhough I had to decline my spot at Michigan, I have nothing but good feelings for the school and everyone I interacted with.
Plus you will be the first grads to enjoy the new facilities for both years.
Ann Arbor is a beautiful place.

That last thing might turn a few heads during the application process...especially if you were a performer so to speak.
