Seeing as you haven't even applied yet - let's take one step at a time. I'm sure there are few applicants applying at this stage, namely because there are fewer spots available. Because of these two factors, I'm assuming you will get a response faster than those who applied in mass on Jan 6th. There's no science to figuring out the exact timeline of when you'll hear back, so there's no point in asking.

Yup he's serious... I didn't think so at first, (actually I didn't think he was serious in applying for CBS in april) but yup he is...

I withdrew my CBS app today. Best of luck to everyone. I've got to believe that CBS is about ready to send a ton of responses anytime now.

Someone mentioned contacting the AdComm in an attempt to expedite his decision - the general consensus, as I understand it, is that this can be risky. AdComms generally don't like to be forced into making a decision unless it's for a very good reason, e.g., you've been accepted to HBS/Stanford/Wharton but prefer CBS.

If you applied late in the process, you are at a significant disadvantage.

Unless you have a very legitmate reason on why you applied so late, they will take the hint that you were not serious about them to begin with.

However, you can probably override this if you're an exceptional candidate that merits an entrance over all those who are currently on the waitlist. Exceptional can mean many things - someone who has saved 20 kids in a village in a remote region in africa, or someone who has generic accounting experience. It is whatever the school needs to round out a diverse class body.

Of course, this is all my speculation.

Good Luck.

Hmm, this is weird. I just logged in, and even though it still says my application is still under review, I can no longer see the recommendation submissions, and can no longer view the submitted application. Anyone else experiencing this? What does this mean?

It probably means you will be accepted or rejected within exactly 47 minutes.

I wouldn't worry about it. Doubt it means anything at all.

Does anyone know when the earliest date one can submit an application for ED is? I couldn't find much on CBS's website.

Once the application goes live but a date hasn't been set.

I attended an information session yesterday. Really like the school. Columbia is my #1 now. I'm applying Early Decision. Anyone else?

Undecided to apply ED or RD. I'm applying to six schools (3 of which are dream schools for me). At the same time, I want to put all the chances on my side. Do you think applying during ED increases your chances?

It does increase your chances, but it's binding. That means if you get accepted into ED, you have to go or forfeit $6k. So if you are applying to ED, you better be 100% sure that Columbia is the school for you.

Are there seats allocated to ED ? I get the part that ED will garner really serious applicants but if there are no specific seats allocated to ED, i dont see how it increases ones chances.

The options and deadlines web page specifies that RD is for international applicants... As a non US-citizen, can I still apply in ED? I wouldn't understand the purpose of ED if it does not increase your chances. Is it fair to say that it would otherwise only show those who really consider CBS as their top pick. At which point, it doesn't really mean much...

As far as a certain number of allocated seats for ED, don't quote me on this, but I did hear that a little less than 50% of the incoming class of 09 are ED applicants.

Columbia official answer to the purpose of the ED is so that they can manage their yields, which means getting those yields up.

I'm not sure if internationals can apply to ED. That you would have to call and ask.

I ll be going there next week and will get an definitive answer on this. I am also sailing on the same boat but from what i know, Intl students can apply in ED. I cant think of a plausible reason as to why they would leave out intl students.

One possible reason for not allowing internationals in ED is that there might be more external factors that would prevent an international from being able to fully commit (the current loan climate, visas, etc.) No proof of this, just brainstorming.

6k is a lot of money hehe. If I don't have that much money in the bank, where I can get a loan to pay the deposit?
