Hang in there raulmba, there's still plenty of time for interviews before the decisions start coming out. I believe if you look at last years forum, some people were interviewed right before the deadline.

Hi all... Current 1st year Kelley MBA student. These forums were really helpful for me last year, and I wanted to chime in and answer some questions you guys may have. I was a R3 applicant, white male, 27 years old, solid work experience (4.5 years), and not international. I've already got a summer internship offer with the exact company/program I wanted to work for when I decided to enroll in a full time MBA program. Last year we had 100% internship placement for the class of 2011, and I imagine that trend will continue this year.

I will try to answer this question to tcha5782 since they have not had the opportunity to answer yet...

kinda hard/long question to answer.

how its been so far? students, teacher, and the program. what sticks out to you?
i know you only stated few weeks ago, but hows the marketing program?

It's been great, the weather was much nicer than I expected - it was warm well into November. If you are going back to school, Bloomington is a great college town. I have been to many schools all over the country and few rival the campus and downtown area of Bloomington. That said, it is a "college town" and definitely not a big city.

The student body is fantastic; everyone gets along extremely well - both international and domestic. An example of the student body really living the "Kelley Collaborative" culture can be seen daily. Many students are currently all interviewing, and even if two students happen to be interviewing for the same position they will still help each other (like many of you in this thread). The culture, and general positivity is one thing that really separates Kelley from the others in my opinion. The professors are great, specifically within the Core. For the Core we have one of the top Accounting professors in the country, our Marketing professor is considered one of the top pricing guys in the country, our Operations professor ditched Kenan-Flagler to come to IU - in fact I had the opportunity to go to his home last night and watch the IU @ Michigan State basketball game. They all have many accolades, but one thing I need to point out is that they truly value learning in a classroom environment and manage to keep class very interesting.

The marketing program at Kelley is great, and both marketing academies are fantastic, but I will let the reputation speak for itself there. For example, some marketing offers I have heard (for both full time and internships) were GE ECLP, P&G, General Mills, Kraft, Miller-Coors, and 3M to name a few.

Hope this helps, and please let me know if you have anymore questions!

A late thanks, but THANKS. that was really helpful.

Haven't heard anything but I got a handwritten note from a current student the other day saying the usual "if I have questions feel free to email him." I am sure it's standard but I'm pretending in my mind that they wouldn't bother sending something like that if I was definitely in the ding pile....the things you do to keep your sanity during the admissions process lol.

I haven't received one recently, but I did get one a few days after I visited campus in November. It came from the two students who took me on a tour of the Kelley building(s). Did you visit or interview in the last couple weeks?

Nope - nothing since I sent in my app on 1/20. IV'ed with Jim Holmen in Admissions on 1/18.

I had a self initiated interview on campus back in December. I was interviewed by a student, it went for about an hour and there were no real curve balls, just know why kelley...that was super important because out of all my interviews kelley was the one that really gave me a chance to talk about myself as a potential student and what I was interested in besides my current job, revenues, quant ability....I got the sense that they really stressed having that kelley fit and personality. I really admired that. Good luck.

I only encountered one question that wasn't part of the why mba/why kelley/career goals type of questions, and it was a variation of the "weakness" question you might see on some mba applications.

The question was basically "During your professional career, please tell me about a weakness that was identified during one of your reviews and what you have done to work on that."

I had a skype interview..
as every one said in this forum, pretty standard questions.
The only difference I found was that there was no time given to break the ice..
I mean within few seconds of teh interview, I got the first question..
Nothing wrong in that..
But a little chit chat in the start help to calm the nerves..
Also make sure that you look at the web cam... I was not sure where to look..
Looks odd on the webcam..

I was reading a chat transcript of Kelley adcom guys and found that international students have a tough time getting jobs.

The adcom guy goes on to say that international students are sent back to their country and are called after 2-3 years on a L1 Visa!!!

https://www.accepted.com/chat/transcript ... elley.aspx

"Many employers are moving forward with initiatives to send foreign-born MBAs back to their country and bring them back to the US under an L-1 visa a few years later."

Given the condition of the Indian middle class, how can we even think of returning back to our country? Who will provide us jobs and who will repay the debt?

Hey Sridhar,

It is a common knowledge that if you pursue SCM/marketing/sales in the US- getting a job is a bit easy. For finance and consulting- getting a job in the US is a bit difficult mate.

If this is the case, I am wondering if there is any point in pursuing our MBA there! MBA is a huge investment. Given the condition of the Indian middle class, how can we even think of returning back to our country? Who will provide us jobs and who will repay the debt?
