I submitted last night (1/4) and my status updated this morning to the "printed and being prepared for review" - I hope there's a status change every morning... no waiting would be great!

Still no movement for deferred ED applicants, I presume?

Not sure there has been any movement for anyone yet this calendar year. Seems that there are a few outstanding ED applicants, in addition to deferred EDs and RDs...

How does a RD get deferred? An RD has been pushed already to Round 2?

What have deferred ED people done with CBS - more R2 apps, watching time by, etc.? Does anyone know when CBS will get back in touch with the deferred?

As a deferred ED, I was told I should find out no later than Feb 1st what their final decision is. Not holding my breath on this one...

Interview was about 45min to an hr. Fairly formal setting, as I met my alum at his office. He is pretty high up in real estate and he was not a very casual guy so that also led to the interview being somewhat formal. But it was pleasant. He read questions off a list and took notes while I spoke, not too much back an dforth, he mostly listened and made occasional remarks.

1. Tell me about yourself.
2. Why MBA
3. Why Columbia
4. Tell me about an ethical dilemma. (And he kind of prefaced it with a "they require me to ask this")
5. What do you do outside of work?
6. Tell me a time you faced adversity.
7. Questions for him.

Like i said, very straightforward. I think I did pretty well but I could have been more eloquent on some questions. I think I was expecting a little more of a relaxed chat but it really felt much more like an interview with him. He told me he would submit feedback in a few days and I should hear back in about a week. He said good luck on the way out, and that was it!

Now it's back to waiting....

I also am surprised to see you perusing this board if you're already committed to attending HBS - do you just like following this message board for a school you're not even going to attend because it makes you feel better about yourself since you've gotten in and others haven't?

Come on guys - let's not get into any wasteful arguments. I think your last statement is completely out of context.... I visit all forums even though I have not applied everywhere. I am sure Bubba is a regular visitor like many others..

Sorry uprightcitiizen and zeustheman felt that way about my message - it was in jest to josiebella to look at a misplaced '?' in perspective. Apparently, the intended humor of my intro may have rubbed some (very sensitive, probably non-profit) people the wrong way, but that is not how I meant it. I think josiebella interpreted it correctly as she replied with a "lol thanks", so as long as she's not offended, no harm done.

i am not offended. i chuckled.

***HELP!*** Anyone with experience with the following scenario, begging for your advice!!

Applied ED, was deferred, and just received the following email:

Hello Cidney,

How are you? We have begun reviewing applications in our “reconsider later” list and yours is among those being discussed. I will be presenting your application to the Admissions Committee, and I would love to have a chance to chat in the next couple of days. This will only take up to 30 minutes of your time—not too long!

Let me know when you are available, and I look forward to speaking with you!

Best,

Assistant Director

What are they going to ask me about? How do I prepare for this? GAHHHH so excited!! One more chance to plead!

Thats so exciting! I have no experience with this but I'm assuming that they would ask you to make a case as to why they should pick you over other deferred candidates. What makes you unique and how do you stand out? I am also guessing that they're going to ask you questions similar to the interview...so, why Columbia, why MBA, why now, etc. Know yourself, CBS, and your goals inside out and be prepared to make a compelling argument. Thats my two cents. Best of luck!!

Congratulations josiebella! Looks like your hard work has paid off. Will you be pursuing Stern and others?

I will wait to hear from Stern, but unless they give me money (highly doubtful) I will probably opt for Columbia...

Thank you guys for the congrats

I will be happy to help anyone if I could!

Stern or CBS? no brainer, even with money on the table. Columbia, hands down.

You want to see something really pathetic about female applicants?

Check out:
The domain name ecp.fr belongs to Ecole Centrale Paris in France, top 3 engineering school. Look at that ridiculous website they have set up to "attract" girls :?

Girls whom I have shown the website were pissed off to be considered dumb fashionistas.

You mean to say, "Want to see something really pathetic about top engineering schools?" :)

I could not make the deadline of Jan 5th to columbia. Is there any significance of that deadline besides scholarship (as it states on the website). Since columbia is known to be rolling, i can submit application even in late Jan/Feb, correct?

Is there any point in applying in late Jan, and is there is significant drop in chances after jan 5?

You can apply anytime, but I read that CBS receives over 80% of its applications by the Jan. 5th deadline. That makes post Jan 5th roughly equivalent to a R3 at another school in my opinion. That being said I applied post Jan. 5th but only a few days.

I agree. CBS has a bit of an inferiority complex to other schools, e.g. Wharton. So the more interest you can show, the better. In any case it can't hurt!

Inferiority complex aside, who wants to live in Philly. People seem to minimize that you have to live in a certain place for at least 2 years. That has a lot to do with where I want to go.

About a million and a half people. And me for many years of my life.

I love NYC as well, but I can understand people wanting to live in either place. It's a personal preference.

...plus Philly has better pizza.

Clearly you haven't had the best pizza, imo. I've been to Italy, Cali, Chicago, Philly, NYC, India, Japan, and few others, and sampled their pizzas. Cheesesteaks on the other hand is definitely within Philly's forte. To each his own.
