Good luck to everyone as the call begins!

I just submitted my app withdraws today since it looks like schools are ramping up to levy decisions. Far more anxiety-ridden process than I thought it would be -- all my eggs are now officially in the Stern basket :)

So, to everyone still waiting on fellowship decisions, this could potentially be useful information. It is 12:26AM EST right now, I just logged on to my initial consortium application:

https://app.applyyourself.com/AYApplica ... sp?id=cgsm

My decision was available, which was a letter stating that I received the fellowship from Anderson. This wasn't a surprise to me since I got the call last week, but for anyone who still hasn't heard about the fellowship, I would imagine that this same information might be available to you right now as well? After all, the draft did take place a week ago. Hopefully this is helpful to someone.

I'm not really sure where to begin. Some of what you said above makes sense but some of it makes me raise an eyebrow. Obviously, you applied but maybe your experience was just completely different. Which is allowed of course. :)

The Consortium process isn't the best in the land. In fact, it's probably more stressful than a regular application. When dealing with 17 schools you have 17 different processes for the same applicant group. Which is enough to make you go crazy. Lol. Consortium applicants are like the step kids of the MBA process. Some schools are great dealing with us. Others just can't seem to get it together. If I could do this over I would have added a few non-consortium schools to the mix to calm my nerves.

However, I believe to tell people to not apply unless they are a top candidate is a bit misleading. Minorities at the 'top' tend to be programmed to work even harder to meet the expectations of their peers while downplaying their abilities...so not to make others jealous.

A bet half the over achievers that applied didn't realize their worth before beginning this process. Thankfully I was so naive about Consortium (I even mispronunced it wrong for the 1st 2 days I was at my first and only diversity weekend) that I didn't have much time to think about if I was good enough to apply until afterwards.

If I had read your message back then I might have overthought the process completely and not applied. I'm glad I didn't or I wouldn't be able to meet you at OP :) I'm sure there are consortium candidates who shouldn't apply but that's true of all MBA programs.

There is more to getting into school besides a GMAT and application. I'm confident that a large majority of fellows worked their asses off to get to know adcom, students, and their schools. I know I did. Lets not mention the MONEY and time it costs to go to multiple diversity events 1000 of miles away. In general, those individuals aren't the usual. And your advice wouldn't apply to them. This process weeds out applicants as part of its nature. Many of the students I met at UNC's IKF didn't apply. One chic was like I just can't see how I can do all this by the deadline.

Perhaps I'm just naive because I didn't plan this journey like most. There was no year of GMAT prepping, endless diversity weekend tours, or months of essay writing. I had 2 months to get it together and put all my eggs in 2 baskets. And I made it. I would tell anyone, to at least try.

Half the reason why you don't see minorities in the work place is because they didnt know they could apply or were qualified. I have had some amazing jobs because I walked into interviews and said look maybe I don't look like your usual candidate, 'but you're going to love meeeee' (in my Jennifer Hudson Dream Girls voice). Lol.

The consortium and MBA application process is not just about getting into school. It's also about learning who you are and taking inventory of your life and your future. Even if an applicant doesn't get into a program, I'm strongly confident that the process changed them as a person. I'm definitely not the same person I was in November.

So, I say you know what just try. And this comes from someone who will probably be the oldest Consortium member of the Class of 2015. Lol. Damn I'm getting old.

SEE Y'ALL AT OP!!!!

I have enjoyed reading today's discussion. As a Mexican-American minority, I can tell you that things are not always the way they seem. Life is full of nuances and complexities. Indeed it is precisely this that makes it wonderful.

I moved to the US at age 10 without speaking a word of English. A week ago I took the GMAT and scored in the 97th percentile for Verbal. At the same time, however, I took Calculus II in high school, passed the rigorous exam, and won an award for excellent math skills. A week ago I scored in the 35th percentile for Quant. Not so straightforward right?! ; ) Does my 640 make me a marginal candidate? Some may look at my quant score and think that I'm a complete idiot who has always been bad at math. Others may mistake my score on verbal to mean that I am a US citizen. I like to think that both assumptions are wrong. Again, life is full of nuances!

Regardless of our differences, we are all in this together and I wish each of you the best in your application (Consortium or not!)

Jose

I am so glad I saw this post. I have the same exact GMAT score results. I applied this past fall and had reasonably good success, so low GMAT scores are not the end all be all! I got into Ross and got a Forte Fellowship from Tepper. I got interviews with Booth, Ross, Tepper, Kellogg, and Fuqua and am on the waitlist for Booth, Kellogg, and Fuqua. Your 640 definitely does not make you a marginal candidate!

I know this is coming a little later than most, but I received word from Texas today...in at McCombs! Great way to start what's quickly becoming an unproductive day at work.

I'm waiting to hear from McCombs, Kenan-Flagler, and Goizueta. I'm sure there are some lurkers out there that are waiting to hear from other schools as well.

I got confirmation from Haas, McCombs, Ross, and Tepper

Hey Sonjeroo,

Glad your interview went well! I just could not read my interviewer, plus it felt kind of rushed. I am still hoping for the best! Did you hear anything back from Johnson or Tuck?

Hey redchica! I got a standard "we received your app" email from Johnson. I was at a Johnson event locally, and they said that they're actually doing Consortium applicants on a rolling basis this year, but I haven't seen that confirmed in writing. I haven't heard from Tuck, but I self-initiated the interview, so I suspect I won't hear anything until much closer to the deadline. How about you?

Darden is unpredictable with their consortium round 1 applicants. They sent out interview invites within one hour of reading the application (assumed from when the CGSM sent the app to the schools) asking you to interview within two weeks. I remember spending $900 rushing down to Darden. I was wait-listed originally (as were many other my consortium peers) only to be admitted two months later with the other CGSM applicants My theory is that they are very yield conscious. Hopefully the trend changes this year (or my sample size of peers was not representative last year) and they show more love for the consortium round 1 applicants on this forum! Good luck all :)

I called the admissions office this morning and the person on the phone said that they are still working on Consortium applicants. She said that decisions would probably go out at the end of the week.

Congratulations! So happy to see this. I remember you from last year and I am glad you got into a great school.

Thank you so much. It has been a very long ride but I am grateful to God for everything. I am happy and at peace knowing that regardless of the outcomes of my other applications, I will be starting business school next fall.

Hi All! I just had to jump in here as a 2011 Consortium applicant and major blogger. I remember these same questions last year and the year before.

1. Schools see everything except membership essays...

2. When you're putting your essays into the consortium system, use Internet Explorer. I remember having issues with it. They may have changed it since I applied, but if you're having trouble copy and pasting, then switch browsers.

3. I wrote this blog post, recounting my application process from 2 years ago, since today is the day that I hit submit. I wanted to give everyone something to think about AFTER you've all submitted your applications today. The link titled Application Submission Exhaustion in the blog post is quite funny as it recounts the frustration I experienced 2 years ago!

Best of Luck to all!!!!! You're about to embark on the most amazing experience of your life!

R2 submitted on 1/4. Got released to member schools on 1/11. Received an email from Haas yesterday letting me know the app is complete and ready for review, and I should get my transcript ready in the event they extend an interview invite.

Forwarded to schools on 1/16
Confirmation of receipt from Stern 1/18
Interview invite 1/22
Interview Event 2/22-23

I got my log-in info from Johnson. Still haven't heard from Darden, USC, or UCLA.

also, two questions:
Anyone hear from Emory yet? no confirmation from them.

And does anyone know how waitlists work with consortium? Im guessing that consortium encourages schools not to put people on waitlist because it messes up the fellowship selection process in March. Does anyone have any idea?

To answer your second question, the schools select you for Consortium Fellowships, not the Consortium. So there's no reason for the Consortium to encourage schools not to put people on the waitlist, unfortunately.

This can only be done once your application fee has been waived but they should all be waived by now. If you're unsure, log on and double check that this has all been completed. Cheers!

R2: How do we do this? I received a confirmation email from McCombs but did not get a login/password.

Outside of that, still no love from Ross or Cornell.

Humm... did your confirmation give you a date of further contact? I was cgsm 1 so confirmation receipts were sent in December but I also had already created a profile on UT's site prior to submitting my consortium app so I had already created my password. My confirmation from Shelley Clifford stated that the school would be sending a temp password and ID but I already had mine and it was also at the top of my confirmation email. There was also a timeline for future communication. Things have been slow and had some technical difficulties a couple weeks ago so maybe that's the hold up.
