Well, can't be that no one's considering Cornell at all this year.
I'm most likely applying R1, like the school - think it's somewhat underrated, love Ithaca's slightly hippie/countercultural vibe , and love the school's placements in New York City!
We probably have another couple of months before the application opens, but we at GMATClub are always ahead of the curve.
Application Statistics

Count me in. The investment management program looks sweeeeet. Couple that with the immersion program and the placement in IB/IM and it's a no-brainer for me. I'm gunning for Rd 1.

I'm in for Round 1! Visited the campus in April and loved the place. The students are just awesome, I would love to spend two years there. I'm going into investment management also and they have some great programs for that.
Toughest part of the app (assuming essay questions don't change): 400 word career essay! That's gonna be tough. I can barely get it to 750 for Columbia. Oh well, cross that bridge when I get there. Absolutely amazing school though. Anyone that hasn't visited definitely should.

I'm actually going to try talk to the Johnson adcom at the "Inside the MBA" event in New York next week. Will ask about when the essays will go up and about when visits will be available for scheduling.
It sounds like Cornell has been extremely yield conscious in recent years and like a lot of of other schools really wants you to show it some love. I'd like to visit in September (I've hung around the campus before, but never visited Johnson per se) but I'd also like to get the adcom's thoughts on visiting campus before the application. Say I get an interview, would I need to go up there again for an on-campus interview?
By the way, any NYC GMATClub folks going to the "Inside the MBA" event on Monday at the Waldorf-Astoria?

Hey guys, let's connect again in a few weeks time and see if we can't coordinate our Cornell visits to coincide? A mini GMATClub rendezvous in Ithaca would be awesome!

Sounds good to me...I am thinking of Sept 16th or 17th (Tues/Wed). I will be flying in from the bay area, and still have to coordinate hotel arrangements (am thinking of flying into JFK and staying in the city...but not sure how to get from NYC into Ithaca)...I tell ya, the cost of going to b-school is already starting to hit me!

I think you're right that Johnson will probably be pretty tough this year to get into. When I visited Cornell in March and met with the Admissions Director, he told me that he thought that the average GMAT for this year was very likely to be over 700, or if not, very close to 700.

It's interesting that he specifically mentioned the GMAT average because I heard a rumor that Cornell's new admissions director (new as of a couple years ago) has been putting a lot of emphasis on increasing their GMAT average.

I'm in NYC, don't drive and will probably try and book a ride on the C2C bus from Grand Central to Cornell. http://www.c2cbus.com It's going to really suck if the bus is only meant for Cornell students.

Interesting. I have never heard that, but it certainly fits with what he told me. The admissions director is certainly working aggressively to improve the Johnson school and attempt to move it into the top tier of schools. My interaction with him has been absolutely great, and I think he has and will continue to do great things for the program.
