Important Notice: Round 1 Application Deadline Extended to Monday

Unbelievable!

My laptop's display went bust at 12:30 AM on the 15th, some 6 hours before the deadline and I gave up on Round 1. And then, this!! :-D

I submitted for Round 1 10 minutes ago, thanks to the extended deadline. Not sure how it'll be looked at though as I didn't find anything saying that it was for Round 1. The application doesn't display the Round to which you applied, right?

I'm happy that Darden was able to push back the deadline. On the other hand though, is Darden going to look any favorably to applicants who applied before the first deadline? It doesn't make complete sense to me that I planned out my submission date strategically, so to avoid a deadline rush, then a pushback of the deadline happened. Had I known about this deadline pushback, I would've submitted this weekend, rather than submitting my application a week and a half ago. (though chances are there's not much I will be able to edit anymore). Anyway, I'm just curious.

"We have received many calls from applicants who thought that yesterday they had missed the deadline when they had not. As a result, we have decided to extend the Round 1 deadline until Monday, October 18 at 5pm Eastern Daylight Time."

While this is the official line on the extension, I am beginning to think there must have been a technical glitch with the application towards the end of the deadline. I find it hard to believe that applicants thought 'they had missed the deadline when they had not'. Otherwise, there is no reason to extend the deadline.

I am only speculating and I am not sure what happened, but there is more to it than what meets the eye.

I highly doubt anyone will get special treatment from adcoms, its their fault many people couldn't submit. I would have been lumped in with that category had i not called them.

I have a bit different take on the situation. I submitted my app just fine about 6 hours before the deadline with no problems at all. If they were extending the deadline for a technical "glitch" I think they one have only done it for a day maybe two at most. I think the more likely scenario is that applications levels were not anywhere near where they expected otherwise why give so long to submit?

Just a thought.

^^^eh, that doesnt make sense, I do see how you would reach that conclusion. Consider this:
You may have been one of the unaffected
Many people were complaining about a glitch, a day or two would have been sufficient assuming that UVA got it taken care of by then, perhaps it took longer.
More importantly, i doubt a large number of apps came in during this extended period as it was unforeseen. If someone is applying R1 they would have submitted already, if its R2 then they wouldn't be ready.

A school cant extend a deadline by one week the day before to create a sudden influx of new applications.

I agree with both of your argument on this topic. When I first stated my "concern", if it's considered one, I wasn't really complaining. I was just curious to see if Darden would give any sort of preferences to people who submitted earlier to avoid something of this sort of thing happening. :-D I still hope the best for everyone no matter what!

Roll call updated!
22 applicants vs 34 last year for R1
However, I think this year is going to be more competitive!

How long does it usually take for interview invites (or rejections) to come out?

It is still a mystery to most folks. Darden hasn't released any information, but I am guessing that the Director of Admission is going to make a video blog in November, discussing the terms of interview invitations. Judging from last year's timeline, the interview invitations will probably start going out in about 3 weeks from today (this is a pure guess) and will probably last until the last date of notification.

Hi Darden applicants. I am current Darden SY and can speak a little to the timeline for interview invites. When I applied, invites for Round I BEGAN to come out in early November. The key thing to remember is that an applicant can receive and interview invite any time, all the way up to that round's acceptance decisions go out. Basically, if you don't receive an interview invitation in October or November, don't worry.

Let me know if I can help with any other questions.
