I have a question with regard to Official GMAT Score Reporting.

I just ordered my GMAT score to be reported to Duke. I dont think the score will reach the Admissions Office before the Nov 1st deadline. The online application says the following:

"Your GMAT score is valid five years from the date of the test. If you have not previously had your scores released to Duke, please contact Pearson VUE to request your scores be sent to program code Q13-N5-32 for "The Fuqua School of Business MBA, Full Time" program prior to your application round's deadline"

Will it be a moajor problem if the score doesnt reach before the deadline as mentioned above?

Any insight would be highly appreciated!

I sent my scores to the college after checking your post last night  . Today, I received a fulfillment mail from Pearson that the score has been made available to the college.

I have a small question as well. I work for a software product development firm, will my work be categorized under the Information Technology category in 'most recent career focus' drop down. Is this the same for all product companies such as Adobe, Google, Symantec etc or should I mark it as "Research and Development"

I'd think all software coding/prog companies come under Information tech. My take is that R&D is for organizations such as CERN. Perhaps the right question to ask is whether your work should be categorized as IT services, or IT product development. Even IT companies such as Infosys have software products (Finnacle?) but I'd still put that up as Information technology and not R&D, even if I'm involved in its development. Nevertheless, the good thing about Fuqua is that you can always use the second box to 'fully capture your focus'. If you're involved in Research and development, you can always use that for your benefit. Just my 2¢. Good luck! :-)

Hello All,

I am filling up the online application for Duke-Fuqua and I am on the TOEFL score report page. Please can anyone tell me if for students from India whose undergraduate degree clearly mentions the "Medium of Instruction as English" there is a provision of TOEFL waive off or not?

Thanks,
Ash

Yes, this qualifies for a TOEFL waiver. You have to select the language of instruction as English under the 'Education Background' header (the field is right under 'name of your undergrad instituition').

Just out of curiosity, how long are everyone's essays? Considering their max of 2 pages, font 10+ rule, we can go really 1200 words per essay. That's 3600 words for all 3 required essays! I am starting to feel like I'm talking too much! Did you have the same feeling? I haven't hit the button yet, but will do so pretty soon. Just thought I'd check in.

URGENT HELP REQUESTED!

What does "Total number of months of management experience:" mean?

Is this the same as "# months spent as a supervisor to atleast 1 person"?

Or is it to say "# months spent in a management role such as strategy, planning, etc."?

I have one essay around 950, but the other 2 are in the 750-800 range.

I just realized that the # people managed/supervised is a question in the Employment sections. Therefore, can we possible assume option 2?

I used 12 point font and it worked out to 750-800 words each. I could probably cut mine down a couple hundred words each if there was a word limit, but that would definitely remove my writing style and readability.

Anyone have any thoughts what they mean by "organization" in the employment section of the application? Is this detail about your company? Or detail about what you did and your line of business?

Good question, I went by #1. I went by the definition of management - the process of handling, supervising, controlling (people, projects, budgets, companies, businesses etc,)

#2 description seems slightly hazy. If one goes by #2, most positions in an organization (even entry level positions) then seems like a management role, doesn't it?

Always better to clarify from the adcom before hitting the button.

10 is the bare minimum Fuqua allows but isn't 12 the standard font size across most schools (and even industries?). Mine is about 700-750 words (font 12, margin 1'' all around).

They mention "briefly describe your organization". I feel a one-liner about the company and another few words about the business unit/LOB may be the best way forward.

Hello, a quick question.
I finished my under-grad in 2008 April and received the transcript with a provisional degree certificate in May. That is the date on my transcript. But I received my degree certificate during my convocation that was March 2009 and that is the date mentioned in the degree certificate. What date do I put in "Date degree expected/ received (mm/dd/yyyy)" section?

Good luck, guys! Over a full month after submitting my application and completing my interview, I am down to 35 days of waiting. Still a long ways to go, it feels like...

My essays are around 600 words, 12 Ft. If this had been the first application I submitted, I feel I would have been inclined to utilize as many words as possible (1200?) to take advantage of the 2 page limit. However, having been forced to answer similiar questions at other schools with 500-600 word constraints...It feels like even 700-800 words is excessive and long winded...I guess if you have enough additional content to discuss, you should use as many words as needed. But writing more, just because they give you space, doesn't make sense to me - not saying anyone here has done that of course.

I agree with you - After having written 2 applications and completing my final one post this, I am becoming a fan of the 500-600 word range. A lot of redundancies can definitely be removed ... and I am an Indian - we have the habit of writing a lot to convey (often) less. My Fuqua essays are all in the same range - First one is 620, the next is 520 and the last is about 500.

Although they say font size should not be less than 10 pt., would advise a minimum 11 and ideally 12. Its better for reading - looking from the adcom's perspective. Further, do keep atleast a 1" margin all around (the normal margin option in word). Using these, you won't fit more than 700-750 words on 2 pages, and I think that is MORE than sufficient. Plus, having 3 essays, each of 750 is a little too much in my opinion - 1 is fine, 3 is going too far.
