In for R1. I'm reapplying after I rushed an application in last year. A big mistake on my part but I'm MUCH more prepared this year and hope for the best!

Just a quick question. For the interview with Duke, do you have to go to the campus to take your interview?
If you are a domestic applicant, you must go on campus for the interview. It's a pretty valueable experience. I did that, took a tour of the campus, and used it as ammo on my interview. Worked out pretty well for me =D

It also helps that Duke reduces their app fee if you visit campus (before submitting you app of course)! That extra $200 or so could come in handy later.

I'm debating applying in EA vs. R1. Duke website has the following info for EA admits -
"Applicants admitted in the Early Action round must submit the non-refundable $3,000 tuition deposit along with official transcript(s) by December 20, 2011. In addition, any applications submitted to other schools must be withdrawn upon an offer of admission from The Duke MBA. "
Although from the statement above it does sound like if admitted one is obligated to pay the deposit and withdraw their applications from other schools, can someone confirm if they know for sure. Is it possible to back out before paying the deposit?

I imagine the Deposit will be due before you hear back from any other schools. I'm sure you can back out before paying the deposit, but you'd be backing out without the knowledge that you got in anywhere better. I don't think it would be wise to apply EA unless you'd absolutely go there if you got in.

Thanks for chiming in. Actually 3 of the schools I'd also be applying to - Booth, Kellogg and Tuck (based on last year) all come out with their decisions before Dec 20th. So I could technically back out .. obviously assuming I have an admit from Duke in the first place What I was more worried about was from a 'right thing to do' standpoint. I'm sure it is *not* ok to back out after paying the deposit coz one is supposed to withdraw all other apps. But before you put the deposit in is a different story ..

Hey Guys - any insights on interviewing in the "open interview" period vs. waiting for an invitation after submitting the app. Do we hurt our chances by not participating in the open interview?
