School's "Silver Scholar" program is just one of the examples of how SOM is trying to attract younger applicants. But most people I've met so far have at least 3 to 5 years of work experience and they aren't necessarily trying to attract applicants with less than 3 yrs of applicants - per say.
I wouldn't worry about whether one is too young or too old when applying to Yale SOM. There are many things that SOM looks at when judging an applicant. While a younger applicant with superb academic background can make the cut, established professionals with few years under their belt can equally (if not better) make the cut.
I think it's an exciting time at SOM. We have a new Dean, new building scheduled, new curriculum (evolving every year), and new student body with stronger profile year after year. Yale SOM will maintain its core strength and mission, whether this is its mission to educate leaders of tomorrow or contribute in social responsibility and non-profit world, and at the same time new class will graduate and enhance the reputation of the school for the future.
So the question you should ask yourself is not whether you are young or old enough to apply, but consider what you can bring to your class of student body and how you will take accountability in shaping a small part of SOM's future.

I might be applying in Round 2, we'll see how I'm feeling after I get through my R1 applications.

Any info on last year's acceptance rate? How many applicants for that 226 class? I am thinking it's my first choice...
Congrats and thanks.

Congrats and thanks. I don't remember seeing the official numbers but traditionally the acceptance rate is about 14 to 15% every year. (Also, that 226 number was as of July 2009. I heard that the actual class size is 223......but it's difficult to keep track of all the new information when my classmates and I are out drinking every day.... ) But for your reference, Class of 2010 was: Average UGrad GPA: 3.52 Average GMAT Score: 718 Average Years of Work Experience: 5.4 Total # of Applicants: 3051 Total # of Applicants Accepted: 438 Total # Enrolled: 193

Thanks so much--I haven't been able to find that info on the web. Glad you are enjoying the first few weeks If you have any thoughts on these admission questions, I'd really be appreciative. I noticed you mentioned that Yale is trending younger (stellar GPA and GMAT). Based on people you are meeting and talking to, do you think it was more competitive for people from a non-profit background this year? I imagine it's pretty competitive for people from that sector, such as myself, just because the school is so well known for its nonprofit specialty. Thanks again...

I actually met more people from traditional background (banking, consulting, Fortune 500 etc) wanting to switch into non-profit sector so far. However, YSOM is known for shaping each class from various backgrounds. As long as your goal is clear and you can communicate that well in your essays, I don't think you should have any problems regardless of your work experience. Also, register for the YSOM Admission forum for questions and answers that you can ask directly to the adcom during the entire admissions process.

Sorry if I'm being lazy, but does anyone have access to the Yale SoM recommender forms?

You have to type in your recommender's email address into the system and it will email the recommenders. If you are asking for an example of the actual recommendation form for your own personal review, I am not sure if that's available because I don't think YSOM has printed applications.

Yes. This was what I was wondering. I would like to prep my recommenders for the content asked in the Yale SoM recommendation form.

I am in for round one. Hopefully my similar GMAT brings similar results, Nink. Look forward to picking your brain for any insight along the way!
Good luck everyone!

They were in Chicago yesterday. I think any way to interact and experience the YSOM culture first hand is a plus for anyone but if you can't, I think they would understand.
Some people who got into YSOM last year in this forum never visited New Haven until the interview date.
