New Campus Plan Update

The plans for building a new campus for Yale SOM took another step forward in June as the Yale Corporation approved design modifications and gave the project’s architect, Foster + Partners, approval to move forward with the preparation of final construction plans and drawings, a process expected to take about a year. Once these drawings are complete, construction could begin once the school has been able to raise sufficient funds for the project.

I would love to apply but i am not sure my profile will be good enough so far:
undergrad: 2.94 EE & Computer Eng. RPI
grad: 3.3 Comp. Sci NCSU
work experience: ~4 years in software dev.
GMAT: Preparing

It would seem i need a killer GMAT ~760s to be somewhat competitive. One reason (besides it is great school) is that my parents live a town or 2 from the school and they work at yale so i could live at home and hitch a ride from them everyday... Any suggestions?

I must say that Yale SOM tends to favor applicants with GMAT 700+. Avg GMAT in the last 2 years among accepted classes has been 708 to 715 range.

what about GPA? is it too low or at least low enough that i have very little chance? does mentioning my mom being a prof at school of medicine help at all? prob not?

Average GPA is pretty high too. Around 3.5 for Class of 2010. I don't remember the official numbers for Class of 2011 that was in our email.

However, if Yale is anything like Harvard, then mentioning that your mother is a professor at Yale might actually work in your favor. I am not an adcom. Yale looks for people from various background and profile. If you like Yale, apply and give it all you got.

Not to steal Nink's show here .. but I guess Yale is definitely tending towards the younger crowd with stellar GMATs and GPAs

Any info on last year's acceptance rate? How many applicants for that 226 class? I am thinking it's my first choice...

Congrats and thanks.

I don't remember seeing the official numbers but traditionally the acceptance rate is about 14 to 15% every year. (Also, that 226 number was as of July 2009. I heard that the actual class size is 223......but it's difficult to keep track of all the new information when my classmates and I are out drinking every day.... )

But for your reference, Class of 2010 was:

Average UGrad GPA: 3.52
Average GMAT Score: 718
Average Years of Work Experience: 5.4
Total # of Applicants: 3051
Total # of Applicants Accepted: 438
Total # Enrolled: 193

Thanks so much--I haven't been able to find that info on the web.

Glad you are enjoying the first few weeks  If you have any thoughts on these admission questions, I'd really be appreciative. I noticed you mentioned that Yale is trending younger (stellar GPA and GMAT). Based on people you are meeting and talking to, do you think it was more competitive for people from a non-profit background this year? I imagine it's pretty competitive for people from that sector, such as myself, just because the school is so well known for its nonprofit specialty.

Thanks again...
