The international students are suppose to have in-person. Once they have done well on the Virtual Interview...

My guess is that applicants who are located relatively close to Yale got invited for on campus interviews. International applicants and applicants from further afield got these video interviews.

I don't believe that every applicant who did not receive on campus interviews has been invited to submit video interviews. The head of admissions congratulates you for making it to this stage of the process, implying that some people have not. I don't think that he needs to lie. @ NYYankees, Yes they may be testing the software but I honestly don't think that they play secretive games and mess with their applicants emotions as that would only be bad for the school in the long run.

Normally schools give one of the following: ding, WL with interview, WL without interview, accepted with interview. There will still have been some applicants who are dinged and some who are WL without interviews, why would the Yale adcom make more work for itself by inviting these people to submit video interviews?

I think that if you have been asked to submit a video then you should look at it as a positive sign that Yale are at least interested in you.

It looks to me like no-one who has had a video interview has heard anything yet, have a little patience and see what happens. 8-)

Great point, RHB. I think you're correct, 100%.

The waiting game, however, is excruciating. Especially considering that we've only crossed the "pre-interview" stage, and haven't even gotten to the actual interview yet!

@RHB : I'm located close to campus and only recieved the virtual interview so far so that probably disproves that theory

also, I'm not criticizing the process, I'm happy to be under consideration, I just think it's possible that they have intvited every remaining applicant for the virtual interview

Hey NYYankees, only @ NYYankees, Yes they may be testing the software but I honestly don't think that they play secretive games and mess with their applicants emotions as that would only be bad for the school in the long run was meant for you specifically. Wasn't criticizing you or anything like that.

You could well be right, I just think that there will be some people who are dinged without either. If someone has poor essays, low GMAT, and little experience, I'm not sure that sixty seconds on the value they place on art will turn their app around. Perhaps Yale have 3 responses now to apps: Ding, Video, and Interview. And that still doesn't account for WL without interview. It's hard to say because once someone is dinged I suspect they don't add to the board anymore so we can't ask them.

It was the same with me. I was not satisfied with my answers, especially with the first one. I realized what I said was the perfect answer for team work, not for diversity.
Five minutes after my interview I had the perfect answer for all of them. :?

This might be a case of counting chickens before they hatch, but just so that I get a better picture about the process...

For those who've already had an interview (Skype), what is the interview set-up process like? Did you get an email with a list of potential timeslots (and dates) for the interview that you then had to respond to with your preference? Or was it just "Your interview will be from 11:00-11:30am EST this Thursday" type of email?

Just a quick update, I was a wait listed candidate from R2 and submitted my update letter with associated bits yesterday and just now got a status update with a politely worded 'thanks but no thanks' from Mr DelMonico.

Good luck to those in R3 and anyone else still hanging in there, more force to you.

Cheers

Good work! Congrats! Do you intend to enroll? Any indication from the conversation whether they are calling a number of waitlisters, i.e. what prompted them to call you today?

a10nisdude - congrats!

btk - today is the R2 deposit deadline, so I'd imagine that admit calls will be going out to waitlisters this afternoon / early next week.

Waitlisted candidates - hang in there!

I will most likely enroll (barring any major changes). I did not ask about the waitlist logistics but I may be a special case as I had to know by May 1st in order to submit my decision with another school.

Good luck to all the other waitlisters and let me know if I can provide any advice (at least from my applicant perspective).

Cheers.
