Is anyone else thinking of attending the Forte MBA conference in Chicago this summer? I've found a couple of blog reviews about it from last year. It's an opportunity to network with students at Forte sponsor schools and also do some preliminary schmoozing with the corporate sponsors. I'm strongly considering showing up.

I'm considering it now that you've mentioned it! Pretty convenient too since I live in Chicago.

I had read it wrong and thought the forte thing was in new york (last year). I think I may go now, though I would probably still need to spring for the hotel.

I'm also strongly considering it. I went to school at UIUC and still have a lot of friends in the area so it would be a good opportunity for me to kill a couple of birds with one stone. If we get enough women gmatclubbers to go maybe we could have a little meet-up as well :)

Ladies, I have a question about hair during interviews. if your hair is longer than shoulder length, how did you wear it during the interviews? Pony tail, bun, down, put up with a clip, etc?

Normally, I have my hair up, but people always comment about what great hair I have. So for my interviews, I have kept my hair down, but I've made sure that I look neat, with no hair in my face. I put product in my hair to make sure that there would be no flyaways or hair in my face.

Good morning, ladies -

Have any of you been pregnant during interview season? I'm struggling with what to wear that is business appropriate. I am almost 8 months pregnant and would like to avoid spending hundreds of dollars on a maternity suit that will be worn once (and I've yet to see a good looking one); but maybe I just need to bite the bullet and roll it into the cost of applying.

Your thoughts?

Thanks!

Hmmm...I have never interviewed pregnant but I did do several job interviews right after I had my baby and I was seriously fat! I ended up buying a new suit for those with the hopes that I could get it taken in later on. I have a great tailor and he said that as long as it is only 3-4 sizes too big it is definitely something that can be taken in.

The couple of times I needed nicer maternity wear I ended up borrowing something....I would probably try some second hand shops that sell maternity wear b/c that kind of stuff is typically rarely worn.

I would vote for French nails, very decent look.

Interview Wardrobe Choice - Women [#permalink] New post 04 Feb 2010, 07:55
Hi Guys (or ladies),
I'm new to the forum so I'm sorry if an answer/collective opinion is posted on this topic elsewhere...

I am starting to prepare for interviews and aside from the obvious question prep, as a woman one of the first things on my mind is "what to wear"... :) Clearly a suit of some type, but I would like to please gather some opinions here:
1) Pants or skirt?
2) What kind of shirt? Button down, sweater shell, or more interesting silk sheath (all are pretty conservative)
3) What color? I wear suits to work, so I have a selection of black, gray, dark gray pinstripe, tan, and navy pinstripe options...
4) Shoes? Heels, flats, or boots?

When I first think about it I lean toward a black suit with pants, blue/white checked nicely fitted button down, and patent leather pumps... Thoughts?

Thanks!

Hi, Please add me to the list as well. I've applied to H/S/W/Tuck Round 2 for Fall 2010, the wait is nerve-wracking!

Anyone applying to the schools above from the bay area? It would be nice to meetup...

I'm also from the Bay Area. I applied to H/W/Columbia/Stern during Round 2.

The wait is excruciating. I keep second guessing myself - there's no way to play it cool during this process.

A woman I work with is quite pregnant, and here is how she's handling it:

1. Wear a work dress and throw a nice jacket over it. The dress she wore today is probably something she'll be able to wear post-pregnancy due to an empire waste and flowy fit. I think the jacket is something she already had. She didn't button it, of course.

2. Find a good pair of pants and then match it with a jacket you already have for a "sport jacket" look.

I don't know if these are dressy enough options, but I think they'd be ok for a biz casual interview, such as those at Duke.

Thought I'd bump this given WSJ's article today

Women MBAs still lag in pay

Interesting to note how much might the result of being less forceful in negotiating pay and bonuses (which was the result of another study) and not lobbying for positions in order to allow for having children.

Please add me to the roll coll. I applied R2 to Kellogg (interviewed)/Ross (interviewed)/Duke (interviewed) and Stern. Btw-the wait is excruciating. I too have second guessed myself, but refuse to give into the anxiety!

I just updated the front-page list. Feel free to let us know how your apps are progressing as well - this way admits to same schools would know of each-other. I am currently waiting on results from Wharton and Emory (both expected around late March, early April).
