Take the GMAT again, no question. You have plenty of time, and if you were consistently scoring 700+ before, you can score higher than a 640. You might be able to get in with that score, but it means that everything else in your application will need to be stellar. No sense in having that hurdle if you know you can do better.

I'll pass along the advice of a Kellogg admissions officer, because it applies everywhere: if you score (materially) below the school's average on the GMAT on your first try, the expectation is that you will take it again. Most people take the GMAT more than once, so they want to see you at least try to bring up your score. Even if you get the same score, at least you made a second attempt.

Good luck!

Not saying you couldn't make it happen if everything else was perfect and luck was really on your side, but very unlikely. What is likely though is that you can score much better on the GMAT! Like everyone else has said, definitely re-take it. And make sure you're replicating the test conditions as closely as possible when taking practice tests. Full essays, timing, everything. I scored a 600 on my first attempt and was completely devastated. But I ended up getting a 710 on my second attempt. I studied both times and still had a 110 point difference, so I'm sure you can bring yours up!
