If you have questions, please contact us by replying to this e-mail or by calling us at (510) 642-1405. Please note that application decisions for complete files will be released on the response dates specified on the application form.

I got that too, but from a different sender.

What are we to make of this?

I think it just means they are ready to review your application and you're not missing anything. I checked my status and it shows the following even tho I received the confirmation email just like you.

I wonder if it's because I used unofficial transcript instead...but again why show incomplete if you told me it's ready to review :?

My guess is that they verify your materials using First In First Out. I submitted my Haas app over three weeks before the deadline, and my status switched from Received to Under Review (and I received an email stating so) on October 6.

Possibly, but that means the processed fast! I submitted a day or two before the deadline and mine has changed to Under Review yesterday.

FROM Haas Admissions Blog: Seed Funding for Berkeley MBA Students

From seed funding to greater connections to UC science programs, Berkeley-Haas is strengthening support for students interested in founding companies and for those who want to join or who already work at startups.

Initiatives include the Dean's Startup Seed Fund, providing $5,000 grants to early-stage startups that include Haas students. The grants will fund prototype development and customer discovery activities, skills that Berkeley MBA students build in the Problem Finding, Problem Solving course and through applied innovation coursework.

“Our student entrepreneurs are already thriving within the Berkeley-Haas and Bay Area startup ecosystem,” says Dean Rich Lyons “This new effort will continue to build on and expand that success."

I don't think they are necessarily using a FIFO system. I sent mine in on the final day and I got Under Review earlier than most of the recent ones posted here.

Hopefully this means an interview decision earlier! (Or a ding...)

I wonder if it's last name alphabetical? Mine is C...so maybe (not first but fairly early)?

I am 99% sure they do an initial sort based on industry. How quickly that goes probably depends on how many competing candidates are represented in your industry.

Re: Calling all Haas Full Time Applicants (2016 Intake) Class of 2018!! [#permalink]
Hello everyone, I wanted to make a public service announcement as someone who has learned this the hard way.

As you may already know, Haas requires all international students from non-English speaking countries to take TOEFL, even if your medium of instruction during college was English. However, they also state that you would qualify for a waiver if you have completed at least 1 year of full-time education in the US. I have a master's degree from the US, so I had called Haas admissions to confirm that I do indeed qualify for the waiver.

However, now after I have submitted my application for Rd 1, I have been notified that I need to take the TOEFL. Mine was a research-based master's degree, so I was required to register for a combination of both course credits and research credits each semester, to make up 12 credits in total (the number of credits to maintain full-time status, my F1 visa and my scholarship). Apparently, since the total of my course credits don't add up to 12 for each semester, I don't qualify for full-time status and therefore the waiver.

I have been told that my application can now only be considered for Rd2, even if I take the TOEFL immediately, since it is past the Rd1 deadline. I am rather disappointed with the turn of events, as Haas was a top choice for me. I thought I was only going to have to wait for my decisions now, since I hadn't planned for Rd 2 at all, but this changes things.

Hope this piece of information helps other international applicants such as myself, who already have a master's degree from a US university and assume that they are exempt from TOEFL.

Good luck, everyone!

Does anyone else have the following:

Status Description:
Your application for admission to the Berkeley Full-time MBA Program is under review by the Admissions Committee. You will be contacted at the decision deadline to see your final admissions decision.

The fact it doesn't mention the possibility of an interview invitation has me concerned I've been sent right to the waitlist.

Well, I think you're overthinking, all it means is your profile has no issue that stops them from reviewing. It looks better to me than mine which says they need official transcript. :P

I guess so - just a little worried about Haas since the application format is different from other schools and their admissions process, to me at least, seems a little more opaque.

Maybe it's worth giving the admissions a call/email to make sure your transcript situation is okay?

Haha I did in fact, and the person is fairly nice and responsive. I think the only reason the comment is still there is they didn't update the section and simply changed from 'Incomplete' to 'Under Review', which I took it as a green light.
I guess I'll worry about the official transcript once I receive my interview invite just like how they said in the note. Keeping my fingers crossed :-D
