HBS Round 1

cpgmba - Submitted 10/10 - Interview Invite 11/11

Here's a list of applicants (from what I could tell from a quick read through this thread). Maybe as it gets posted to the front page, people can update their status and add themselves to the list..

Are people actually getting dinged or did you not get an invite?

Congrats to those who got an invite! I unfortunately did not but c'est la vie!

No, I was not officially ding'd, but the odds are leaning in that direction now. Oh well, HBS was a long shot that I was fully prepared not to receive an invite to.

Just for the record, I submitted 10/15. Good luck to all! :-D

Mondays and Fridays (in Boston) vanished, presumably for long distance travellers. Otherwise it was a ghost town when I registered about 30 minutes ago.

Hey guys I did apply but I think it is a long shot for me - am 28 now, 29 at matriculation. So, if I get a ding without interview it was pretty much expected.

With you boys. I felt like I was writing my death sentence when I put 74 months in the full-time work experience at matriculation.

Just glad other schools don't look at a 27 year-old as beyond his/her prime.

BusinessWeek is also reporting that many of the typical gilded resumes (top tier bulge bracket bank => multi-billion dollar PE firm) are not being interviewed this year. This is very unusual.

if this is indeed true, then good for Harvard.

Why do you say that? I don't disagree or agree, I'm just curious what your reasoning is.

I am curious about this as well. I don't work at a BB (but did my summer internship at one) and IB does get some of the brightest undergrads, from the best schools...yes some of my coworkers were dolts but out of my graduating class the top students all generally went to "gilded resume" places...they're talented people.

Positives of having less PE people: Obviously, more diversity. They generally take up 10% of the class or thereabouts, I believe. Additionally, there is a lot of worry about how the industry will carry on, and they may want to push these folks to look at different career tracks.

Negatives of having less PE people: The HBS/Stanford PE network is extremely strong and powerful. It is one of the main reasons why top finance people are usually shooting for H/S or bust. They also tend to be some of the best students at HBS and overrepresented as Baker Scholars. You do not want to anger these folks.

I believe that they are just waiting to see how many finance people apply in R2, and the quality of this pool of people. There is no doubt that they are flooding HBS with applications this year, and they will have to devise some mechanism to admit the best of them.

Similar situation -- I'll be 28 at matriculation. I'll admit I'm starting to sweat a little bit. I only applied to 4 schools, and it looks like HBS is a bust and I haven't got any love from Ross yet. I know there is still time ... but I'm getting just a tad antsy.
