BTW, where did people stay (traveling by myself) when visiting Chicago and Kellogg? Hotels are EXPENSIVE in Chicago proper. Any suggestions?

My wife and I stayed in the loop its was like 250 a night which was actually a good rate for a very nice hotel in a nice part of town. Try priceline and just put some low low prices in.

Try hotwire. I have even got rates in Chicago downtown for abt $200. The best western in downtown is not bad, it's actually pretty decent.

Spent $90 for the Hilton Chicago through Priceline in south loop- really good hotel and pretty convenient.

Check out https://www.betterbidding.com or https://www.biddingfortravel.com. Based on their strategies, you can get an idea of what hotel to expect when you bid on PL ot HW.

You can add a R2 part to the list to keep it going.

As for hotels, we got the Burnham on hotwire (after taxes it avg like 235 a night). Priceline was not really and option, we tried but we were there for an entire week. If you go for a day or two you probably will luck out.

Also I recommend going on tripadvisor and reading up on hotels...its a great way to find out the true quality of a hotel. I have stayed in extremely crappy 5stars and gorgeous 3stars before. I tend to like boutique hotels, I will trade a smaller room for location, character, and amazing service.

Oh yeah, there is an INSANE amount of construction going on in Chicago. Tons of big new buildings going up. If you are a light sleep you definitely will want call the hotels to find out if there is anything in their neighborhood. We luckily got a room on the 14th floor, I guess the lower floors sucked because of construction across the street. Its all 24/7 too.

R.E.D. - especially if it's true that only 10-20% of the Kellogg applicants apply R1...

Thanks to all for hotel suggestions, I will check out the links and Priceline. Might also look at the International House on U of Chicago's campus.

I'm also a bit afraid of that because had to move Wharton to Round 2... I see many people from my country are going to take GMAT within the next month, the places for test are booked out until December, 5 and I think, most of them will apply in R2.

unfortunately, that is the problem with R2 for most schools. Too many people apply.

I don't think R1 and R2 are that different. They obviously have more applicants for R2 but they also save more spaces for it. If you get in R1 right away then chances are you would have gotten in during R2...if you get the dreaded WL then R1 definitely is better despite having to stress longer.
