Jason

Could you please answer a couple of questions regarding exchange programs in LBS?

1) when does it happen? is it strict or you can choose the period?

2) how does the application process work? is it a bidding system? should you write some application essays to selected schools?

3) how about selecting the courses in the exchange school? are there any limitations?
does it depend on the school?

4) does it cost extra money? (except travel costs)

thanks a ton!

Hi funk,

Exchange is really great fun. About 35-40% of the students here avail themselves to the exchange opportunity.

Timing: This takes place in the second year, either fall or spring term, depending on which school you applied to. Some schools have choices of when to go, others, such as the one I went to, don't.

Application: This is done internally within the school, and depends on things such as supply of slots/demand for said slots, results, and an essay to the LBS office on why you want to go to that school.

Courses: Generally they treat exchange students well, so my friends had a ton of credits to get into the star professor's classes. All this is no extra cost.

That said, one question you didn't ask that may be pertinent is impact of exchange timing on recruiting. That said, my friends on exchange with me still did the standard recruiting from LBS, without too much impact (other than having to fly for final round interviews, which they would have had to do anyway, as these weren't always in London).

This is the best way to see another place in a safe way, with a large group of friends (think China, HK, South America, Spain) etc. especially if you aren't too familiar with the language. If you have interest in working in target country, so much the better, in terms of recruitment.

Hope that helps.

Hi, all. Any military applicants out there? How about US military and any military accepted in round one? Would be interested in hearing about your interview experience. Thanks and best of luck to everyone!

Hello ,
I would like to know to what are chances for an applicant from an oversubscribed group such as an Indian IT consultant to make it through LBS R3. Is LBS R3 similar to R3s in US schools where they are just looking to round up the class?

I think the LBS site gives February 10 as the interview announcement date. ~ March 10 for acceptance announcements.

I am not military, but It does seem that about half a dozen US military were accepted from R1. My interview was from a Military Officer on his base, and it could not have been a more pleasant experience!

Good Luck!

I think invites are sent out on the day only ie 10th Feb. I guess it depends which timezone you are in.
The countdown is on!
