I'm having a hard time with this one as well.

In the tail of the question, the adCom ask "interest" not "profession".
So I think you can link the alternate profession to your background, and link this background to your ability to solve MD problems.

For example If you pick the "teacher" profession, it can be related to your ability to explain the material in a clear manner. Having such ability will serve you well, communicating with your team member and with the company sponsers.

Just for reference - Last year's stats!

Overall -
Cumulative R1 & R2 stats.
22 Admits out of 37 applicants ~ 60% admit rate

R1 - Total: 17 Admits: 11 Dings: 4 (only ONE ding after interview)
R2 - Total: 19 Admits: 10 Dings: 9 (only THREE dings after interview

In total - 37 applicants, 22 admits, and 3 waitlists.

This supports Lev's prediction that an interview is a great portent of good things to come.

Okay the calls have started coming in for today! Just got an admit call from a wonderfully nice woman named Aparna, an Associate Director of admissions at Ross! I'm so glad to have gotten in to my top choice in such a difficult year. And for those that are still waiting, I know exactly where you are at. Just whatever you do, don't let it shake your confidence. I know that's a lot easier to say on this end, but this is a screwed up admissions year because of the economy.

For those of you on the waitlist, I did notice that they appear to accept a fairly high percentage of waitlist students. I'm pulling for everyone, seriously. I know what it's like--I applied last year R3 and...needless to say that it didn't go so well. I didn't even get a waitlist.

The front page of the full-time MBA page now has a bunch of WL info, including an upcoming chat. Here's the FAQ:

updated a couple more people on the first page for you guys. congrats to all the admits and good luck those on the WL. I personally believe that a lot of schools are overestimating the quality and quantity of their R2 apps, which could be good news for those of you on the WL.

Is it true that waitlisted applicants at Ross essentially become round 2 applicants? I know a few years ago, the waitlisted applicants were kept together in a group of files, that weren't reviewed until May or so, or until it was clear what the composition of the class would look like. Apparently now the waitlisted applicants are considered in each subsequent round.

See below.

Ross Website wrote:
Those interested in applying to the Full-time MBA Program are encouraged to do so in Round One for two reasons. First, applicants who are placed on the waiting list in Round One will have two additional opportunities for review in the second and third rounds. Also, applicants admitted in Round One will be considered for scholarships in Round One and Round Two. Round Three applicants are not eligible for scholarship consideration.

For anybody on the waitlist-

In the chat today, Doug of the adcom said that we should have received some confirmation of our request to stay on the waitlist. Did anybody receive that? I'm a little concerned because I didn't see anything...

I got an email on Tuesday confirming my spot on the waitlist.

On another note, I thought this quote from a 2007 waitlist chat was interesting...

Quote:

We will begin reviewing our waitlist in mid-May and continue through the summer.

Now Ross will start reviewing R1 waitlisters with the R2 set of apps. It will be interesting to see how many get off the waitlist compared to years past!

Hey guys,

I am new to this forum and thread. I am an R2 applicant to Ross and interviewed on campus on Feb 16th. Can someone please add me to the first page?

Here is my interview experience:

I interviewed with a member of Ad com as students were all occupied with exams that week and hence not many were available to do all the interviews. My interview started 10 minutes late for some strange reason. The interviewer came and introduced herself (just the first name..didn't say if she was a student or staff) and as we walked to a room in the admissions office she asked a few ice breaker sort of questions like: how was the drive from Chicago etc? Then as we settled down, she said something on the lines of: Well I have 25 mins to ask you some questions so lets get started. I wasn't sure if she had read my file already since I suspected she was on the ad com but I wasn't sure whether it was appropriate to ask that question, so I just went on with the interview. Overall the interview wasn't very conversational and she didn't take any notes at all (which was a bit strange for me however she did smile and nod to acknowledge at various points during the interview). The questions she asked were pretty standard:

- What do you do at your current company?

- What made you decide to pursue an MBA?

- Why do you think Ross fits your needs for an MBA?

- What is unique about you? How will Ross students benefit from you?

- What do you do outside work?

- Talk about a time when you had to deal with a difficult team and what was your role?

- Any questions for me?

The only thing that stumped a bit was that the questions I had mentally prepared to ask my interviewer were more geared towards a student and his/her experience at Ross, so I had to think on my feet and come up with one or two questions for her. One of the questions was more for the Office of Career Development (OCD) but she was happy to answer it anyway. The interview probably lasted around 30 minutes and I didn't feel rushed at all. She was very happy to let me do the talking and take my time with my answers.

Afterwards, I attended an informal Info session by Soojin. There were probably about 20 or so prospective students in there (mostly R2s who were interviewing that day) but a few R3s as well. The first half an hour of the Info session was the usual stuff about Ross: Action-based learning, MAP, RLI, M-Treks etc etc followed by a Q&A session. The most important take away from the entire session was that they didn't get as many applications in R2 as initially anticipated. Hence, there is a lot of hope for those waitlisted in R1 or for those who may get waitlisted in R2. Soojin also explicitly stated that if applicants feel like they have a strong application now, then she'd highly encourage applicants to apply in R3 rather than wait for next year.

Afterwards we toured the new building which was awesome and the new gym is definitely pretty state-of-the-art. I loved the open space and of course the Winter Garden. The tour was followed by lunch with some students and then I met up with someone from the BW forum in the Winter Garden. We just hung out with a couple of other prospective students later in the afternoon. So, all in all, it was a good visit and I made some good acquaintances.

By the way, while chit chatting with the secretary at the front desk in the admissions office, I extracted some insider info that they were still reviewing applications. In fact, she was pulling applications off of the system as we were chatting. She said that they will be calling a ton of people for interviews till the end of the month.

Count me in for Round 1. My college cut the football in my junior year, so it would be nice to have a team to pull for. My gf went to UM for law school and since I've known her, she has already decked me out in enough attire to get by for a week. At this point, I think I follow UM sports more than she does ;)
