Whew, submitted. Feeling pretty good about this app. I did a very straightforward regular essay for 3, but I like how it turned out.
For the question about about naming other schools - I also got dinged by Chicago, and I did not include it in my list. Doesn't make sense to when you're not really an applicant anymore. I don't think them seeing your GMAT scores sent to other schools would affect anything. For example, I had my GMAT score sent to Kellogg, but subsequently decided not to apply there.

Wow ! I'm excited for all you guys just reading your posts. All the best to everyone ! I'm in for R2 so got a little time to go .... but time is flying !!
I'm about 10% over for both Essay 1 & 2. So finally what's the consensus in the group ? About 10% over is ok ?

I think up to 10% is okay IF your essay is really tight and packed with content. Doubt they'll wanna wade through an extra 50 words of hyperbole! Looks like the NYU difference is the interview selectivity - if you score an interview, your odds are 60% or better, which means only 30% of applicants will get the IV call! So the application has got to be outstanding! Hmm, I guess I'll view this one as essay practice and if I do get a call, it's a bonus. Does anyone know about the timing of IV calls and offers? Do we all have to wait till decision day?

I doubt we will have to wait until decision day (feb15). After going through last year's posts, I think we could hear from NYU anywhere from Dec 4- Feb 15, with the best likelihood being mid Jan.

Just got my email with log-in info for the status check site. No info yet on whether my application is complete or not...Guess that's coming in the next few weeks.

You mean a separate status check website ?? other than the one you used to submit your application? Has anybody else received that?

I sent my app in on 11/12 (last Thurs) so my guess is they just haven't gotten around to processing the apps that were submitted on or closer to the deadline...

The most recent status update I received is this... "Thank you for applying to NYU Stern. We have received your application and it is being presented to the Admissions Committee for review. You will receive initial notification on or before the notification dates indicated below.
If your application is incomplete, you will be informed via email and this Application Status Check Website. Please be sure to complete your application in order for the Admissions Committee to begin its review.
We will inform you of any updates to your application via email. Also, you can check the status of your application online at any time...."

No update to check status online here yet either. I submitted about 6 hours before deadline.
I wouldn't worry about this. I think it's safe to assume they are basically printing out, sorting through apps and whatnot. Naturally it will take some time to get through the ones sent on deadline day.

Xlick--when did you get the email with the info about the status check page?
Just trying to see if there's any correlation (I'm going to guess there isn't a noticeable one) since I submitted 3 days before the deadline and got my status check email last night.

Files are reviewed in a random order once they are complete. So when you submit, the file has to be built. They will start reviewing possibly in the next week or so (there may be some early submit files complete by then, but they never review before the deadline). Some get reviewed more than others, some sit in the pile unseen longer than others so the timing of your contact from the school varies - the latest it will be will be the response deadline (and by that point I would say things probably aren't looking great). Any other questions on the process, let me know. I have been pretty close to it.
