The whole work visa thing is a challenge no matter what your choice of career path is. I wish I could say otherwise, but it is sadly a challenge. That said, there are a number of people, even outside the consulting / finance paths, that find routes where they can get sponsorship.

You just have to be determined and prepared to take set-backs. I know how hard it is, as I remember exactly how my luck changed on writing "green card application in progress" on my resume. That was in 2009 though - things are looking better now.

Thank you! I am prepared to take on that challenge, heck! going through this whole application process has been an uphill battle, first the GMAT, then the essays, the application, the interviews. I have already learned through this experience thus far that nothing in life comes easy. I say that this experience is a good soul searching experience and it really teaches you about who you are as a person. I personally learned a lot about myself. I am a lot wiser now than I was a year ago.

ok, that's it for the emo talk:)

Some do, but you'll only have a handful of employers that are CPG companies willing to hire internationals for full-time stuff.

Which is quite humorous/sad, given that several of these positions are specifically global marketing and international development positions.

Yup I am coming to the Tuck info session! Kellogg has one on Sep 29th at McKinsey's office near Museum subway station so I will be attending that. LBS info session is apparently in the afternoon so I won't be able to come. I tried finding info sessions for Wharton and Ross but they don't seem to have any in Toronto.

You want to meet up before the Tuck session?

I could meet up before the Tuck session tomorrow... let me know.

I'm in for R1. I'm really drawn to Stern for some mysterious reason. I just get a good vibe from the school. Its nice to see so many of the current students active on this thread. I was wondering if any of you might be able to guide me on how I could possibly interact with Sternies out in Oceania? Given that I'm in NZ, a school visit or ad com event is not possible for me so I was hoping to set up an informational interview with a local alumn. Would that be possible at all?

I would suggest reaching out to the Stern Graduate Ambassadors: mbaga@stern.nyu.edu

I've interacted with several of them and they seem very eager to help.

By the way, I get a good vibe from the school too, I know what you mean.

staind, reaching out to the Graduate Ambassadors (GA) is not a bad idea.

I know we have at least one Australian in both the MBA1 and MBA2 classes (no Kiwis though), as well as a bunch of exchange students from MBS here at Stern this semester. You can ask to see if the GAs will put you in touch with any of them.

You could try to catch up with some Stern folk who will be in Australia over the winter break, the GA's will be good to help you identify people who are going and they will most likely be keen to meet up.

The GA's are keen to help for a reason - it is their job!

Thanks brainhurt, solaris1, 3underscore! Really appreciate the feedback. Winter break might be a bit late since I'm shooting for the R1 deadline in Nov but I will def get in touch with the GAs.

Does anyone have a list of NYU's recommender questions?

My recommender is asking for them and I can't seem to find them on the NYU website.
