New to the forum, I am applying in R2.
I had a question and was hoping someone could help me out.
I had applied to Ross for Fall2010 and was dinged without an interview.
As per the school, anyone applying again after a year is considered as a new applicant but wanted to know if it is still worth writing the optional essay highlighting the changes in my profile in the last 2 years. The school doesnt ask for a re-applicant essay though!
looking for your views. Hi GS18, welcome to the forum! It's a good idea, but don't repeat any points that you've already mentioned in the other essays. That'd just piss them off. Thumb Rule: Use the optional essay to either indicate a few strengths that you've not been able to mention elsewhere, OR to explain a glaring weakness. Never ever use the optional essay to harp on something you've mentioned in other essays, or to provide a lame excuse for something e.g. poor GMAT score coz you weren't feeling well.

I wish they did all the calls in one day and then just sent an email that night to whoever they didn't get to or send emails first and then just call those with scholarships. Not to give you false hope, but I have a feeling you're going to get a call...

Anybody has any idea if they are going to call any more international candidates today? Specifically from India? mumbai247 and neosummit seem to be the only Indians from India who were called. Anyone else?
Or have they moved on to calling domestic admits and it's over for Indians, other Asians and/or other internationals?

@ SonyRemote Move on buddy. Maybe Soojin already knew that you will land up at a better place. Maybe your essays were not too consistent for the type of students Ross is looking for. I know you are one of those whom Soojin will cite in her introductory speech (if that happens) and say: ' You know by the way, we rejected few people with 3.9 GPAs and 780+ GMAT on the way to build this class of 2014!!' Just the kind of booster fellow students need when they join any School. In any case, even if offered you would have still joined HBS..right? Rock On!!

explorer21 wrote: I am withdrawing my application to Cornell and now i have to decide . I'll need your input for the decision. There are more pro-Ross people than Tepper people on these boards and both admitted weekends are the same date. That's a tough one, especially with your listed concentrations of operations and statistics. I think Tauber and the operations side is good, but I'm seeing just okay offering on the stats/analytics side. http://www.bus.umich.edu/CourseManageme ... 1&Dept=OMShttp://www.bus.umich.edu/CourseManageme ... 1&Dept=BITTepper would be very strong in both operations and statistics, and probably have more academic resources for both. For me, I'm trying to round out my analytics background with more core business learning, so I'm less concerned about getting a top notch stat experience. Tepper is also a smaller program, which is both good and bad. If you want better quantitative, I think Tepper; if you want well-rounded and a little bit better recruiting, I think the edge goes to Ross. Just my 2 cents.

To those on the waitlist: I will in all probability decline the offer from Ross. I cannot garner the financial support without the non cosigner loan option. Still will wait till the deposit is due, but I think we will have lots of waitlisted applicants being offered. I just get a feeling that if I were a domestic candidate, I would not have to think of declining. So much for equality in this world!!! I will love to change this.

Not to be insensitive to the situation, being chinese and having a lot of international friends I do understand the strain and difficulties of coming up with 150K for MBA. However do understand the Ross and many other schools have been trying the best it can to be able to support international students being that international students are 30% of the class. But also do understand that there is not a lot of companies jumping to lead to internationals since as a group the borrowers: - have high likelihood of leaving the country - have no assets within the US - have no cosigners as backup - are currently unemployed this is in addition to the typical risk of: - the borrows are unable to pay back to loans - the borrow is not able to repay within 20 years - or die

this is in addition to the typical risk of: - the borrows are unable to pay back to loans - the borrow is not able to repay within 20 years - or die I know relatively mediocre schools in developing countries that guarantee the availability of loans without a co-signer to all accepted students, and the schools will indeed repay the debts if students happen to default. For example, nes.ru, an economic school in Russia - it's not even a business school. So I feel that students who passed through a severe competition and were accepted to one of the leading business schools on the Earth have the right to expect similar financing options as can provide schools in Russia. Also, as I know Fuqua provides loans to all international students and stands as a guarantor of the loan, which is, it will repay the loan if student defaults.

Edit: Corrected some spelling mistakes, I really should ease off on the caffeine. Based on previous years experience, if you were waitlisted without interview, you should get an interview in the next round.
