Anyone have hotel recommendations for those of us interviewing on campus? I'd preferably like to be within walking distance.

There are several more hotels further south near briarwood. The taxi's are really cheap here and pretty convenient.

Hey all, I'm a R2 applicant, interviewing at the super saturday event. The way I figure it, it's so easy to just interview on a saturday and not miss work that a lot of guys will be there. And hey, if there's a preponderance of women, I'm not gonna complain :-D

Does anybody have an idea of what the Ross acceptance rate for those invited to interview is? I know for some schools its pretty low,...like 35%.

I was invited to interview,..just wanted see how good of a sign that was or if Ross is liberal with their number of invites.

Last year it was 64%. :-D 32% acceptance rate divided by 50% interview rate (according to BusinessWeek).

Wow,..pretty good odds.

You have to take note of the fact that 131 of the waitlisted applicants were accepted last year, which means only 806 of the 937 accepted applicants were accepted without spending time on the waitlist. 806 is 28% of the total number of 2,929 applicants; therefore, if you were looking for the percentage of those who were immediately accepted after their interviews, it is 56%.

It is also worth noting that between the 806 immediate-accepts and the 472 waitlisted applicants, 87% of those who were interviewed were either accepted or waitlisted. In all honesty, I think it is really 100% as the 187 people who were neither waitlisted nor accepted probably declined the waitlist offer as they had already gotten accepted to their top/match schools.

Finally, 28% of the waitlisted applicants eventually got the call from AdCom last year. And so, the odds of getting accepted are still pretty good even with the ridiculously high number of waitlisted applicants.

Can you pl elaborate how did you get the no of 806 applicants accepted directly when there are only 501 seats.

According to Business Week, 937 were accepted last year, with 131 of those getting accepted off of the waitlist. The 806 number refers to the number of people who were accepted without having to spend time on the waitlist. 501 is the number of accepted students who actually matriculated, giving Ross a 53.47% yield.

Had mine on Sunday,...I feel you. My Ross interview was my first school initiated interview (I interviewed at Tuck),..man I was nervous. Just be yourself,...i know thats probably not helpful,...but its just a conversation. You probably know exactly what questions will be asked if you've done even a little bit of research,....believe me,..its no different from what you've read. Walk through Resume, perhaps probing questions as you go through,..then why mba? why ross? etc etc. I didn't get any questions about extracurriculars (I was asked about this at Tuck),...my interviewer was a fairly recent graduate (10').

If I were you I would go through the resume and try to anticipate what probing questions they make have,..and try to rehearse some good responses. Maybe give your resume to a friend and ask them to think of what an adcom might want elaboration on. I'm sure you'll be fine.

As for my interview,...I didn't blow it out of the water,...but I didn't embarass myself either. I think I did a good job of showing enthusiasm for Ross and explaining why I want to go to Ross. But,..I've also never been good at judging how well I do in interviews. Some people know whether they've bombed or not,...i don't think I bombed,...but i'm hoping that I did just enough to squeak in considering Ross' generous acceptance rate of interviewed applicants.

FInally.....my opinion,..and others may disagree,....the interview is basically to get a feel for how excited you are about the program. They've already determined that you're academically good enough to attend (thats why they invited you to interview),..the interview process is to assemble a class that fits in the Ross culture. So do your best to convey a "fit"...whatever that means for you.

Hate to be negative but I'm a bit tired of hearing "you should just be yourself". Sure, maybe to a degree, but i'd rather put my best foot forward and be on my a-game for the entire interview. I'm a laid back guy.. probably too laid back and I know it doesn't come across well in an interview. Maybe some people have the personality, demenour, etc that just being yourself works. For others I don't believe this is the best strategy.

Putting your best foot forward and being yourself are not mutually exclusive.

I know exactly how you feel. My interviwer told me that the fact that I was called for an interview means that I have put forward a strong application and interview is just another step towards knowing me better

Tips:
1. Research the interviewer - his background, his choices etc. For eg. I knew my interviewer's entire career - knowing the choices he made put me at ease.

2. Reach early: I went to the coffee shop and waited for a while and absorbed the surroundings..

3. Know your story and motivation behind your choices. My interviewer probed on reasons for each of my career/community involvement choices. He also asked about all the people who influenced my character

4. Don't sweat over the petty things : I spilled some coffee on myself, the interviewer handed me a tissue :)

5. Show em you know em: know the program inside out. Don't be afraid to ask the interviewer specific queries.

6. Do your best and forget about it: your part of the story ends after the interview. That should be motivation enough. The application process is exhausting. I was just glad one school was off my list :)

Good luck. I know you'll be awesome

Hi Jit,
Kudos to your encouraging words! This is really a morale booster.
Hope that it does not turn out to be a one-sided love story

All the best wishes to you, too!

I took my alumn interview last afternoon.

My interviewer was a very nice and friendly gentleman. We sat at a quiet coffee shop and spent almost 2 hours. The official interview part (the questions were pretty regular ones) was a bit less than 45 mins and for the rest of the time, we were chatting over different things about Ross; its culture, faculty, community, and the town of Ann-Arbor. My interviewer was kind enough even to share his own career aspirations. One thing that particularly moved me was his 100% honest comments and that's where I again realized that Ross is a "Different" school.

For my part, I didn't really have a blast, but I think I didn't bomb it either.
So, plz wish me good luck.

Ross usually starts the calls a day or two early, but you will definitely have a decision by 3/15.

Do you guys/gals expect the normally high conversion rate for interviewees to hold this year for Ross? I read somewhere on this forum that they interviewed more folks this year?

Also,..any reason why Ross accepts so many of the people they interview?

In Soojin's blog she mentioned that a large number of applicants were using consulting services, which made a lot of the essays similar and 'cookie cutter', to get around that, they decided to interview more candidates to get a feel for them and ensure they actually wrote their essays. (or something like that, I can't remember the exact details)

http://rossblogs.typepad.com/admissions ... icers.html

Ironically, I did not use a consulting service, but I think my interview at Ross was the worst part of my application and did not reflect my candidacy in good light... oh well, just wait and see.

I was under the impression from her P&Q interview that interviews would be weighted more heavily this year than in years past. I'd guess that this translates into a lower conversion rate and a smaller waitlist since I'm doubtful that they would actually want to increase the number of interviews (despite the previous report in this thread to the contrary). Just spitballing here, though.

MY FRIENDS! RELAX!!! BREATH!

Round 1 Admit here. They just sent out an email telling you decisions will be going out. This email does not contain any information about your personal admission status. EVERYONE GETS THIS EMAIL!

Calls start on Monday according to the blog. They try to call all admitted students and send a follow up personalized email usually the same day. If they call and you don't answer they may leave a voice mail but you get the same follow up email usually the same day.

After that, all decisions are released according to the date on the email that was just sent out. To be honest, I never did the login to check my status because I was already told I was admitted. I honestly don't know every possible scenario but just wait and see.

My advice is try to enjoy the weekend because stressing all weekend will not change what happens next week. I know this is a stressful time (this is my second year of applications) so I wish you all luck and hope you can find a way to relax if you are stressed!
