has anyone tried to preview the app?

There is a question about current supervisor being aware of the apllication. I selected Yes but the pdf shows it as blank.

Secondly the awards/honors section has cut off quite a chunk of data. I am within the limits (ur anyways not allowed to exceed) yet its cropped off..

Anyone else facing similar issues?

Hi - yeah, the same thing has happened to me for the current supervisor question. Don't worry about it - I have heard that the printed app we see is not what the adcom sees.

I just submitted my application. Good luck to everyone!

The HTML version of the app is not what the adcom sees, but the PDF version is. From the website:

Please click the "print" button below to view your application responses in HTML format. Once you have answered all the required questions on this application, you will be given the option to view your application in PDF format (as our office will see the application once submitted)

Another weird thing about Stanford's app is the title for what is supposed to be "Extracurricular Activities During University/College" shows up as "Activities and Awards After University/College" and "Activities After University/College" shows up as "Community/Civic/Charitable Activites since University/College, If applicable." in the printed app.

Hi Sentiment,

I had the same issues. But, don't worry, I work in an admissions office that uses the same software...the adcom will be able to see the data you enter. The preview PDF is not the only way they can access your data. And if we're both having the same problem, I'm sure they'll notice it.

Turning in Stanford today... :good

I was asking a friend of mine from college now at the GSB about the social scene there, and here's what I heard back:

"In another moment of frankness, I'm not really a big fan of the broader social scene at Stanford--it seems largely Frat 2.0, to be fair. Not everyone ascribes to it, and some of the closest friends I have in my life I've met through the GSB, but the larger social community strikes me as an extension of college (which is not something I'm too big a fan of). That said, there are plenty of opportunities to make much deeper connections with other students in the GSB, but I don't like to do it over beer bong at the local sports bar..."

Any thoughts?

Yes - don't you think this is likely to happen at any school though? Despite the cultural fit that many people talk about, there are bound to be different kinds of people in school, even if it's just 400 people. It will likely take the first couple of semesters to find like minded people whom you get along with better. And it may even be the people who go beer bonging (not sure if that's the right term) but in a different setting. At least that's my take on it.

Don't know if the system will let you or not, but in their email they said:

Your recommenders should submit their recommendations electronically before you submit your application. We recommend that they submit by Tuesday, 28 October 2008.

I'm still waiting on 2 recs...

You can definitely submit before all your recs are in. I wasn't going to wait around for my director when he has this bad habit of submitting the rec letters a few hours after they are due. Right now I'm in the process of walking him through how to submit the Stanford letter while he is out of the office at a conference. He can't seem to find his email with the access code and password! :?
