Did anyone else notice that after submitting the application, the email confirmation says that they hope to admit 400-500 people this year? I thought they usually admit 300-400 people. Last year they had 385 and the year before they had around the same number. Did they increase their intake?
Depends on if they mean admits or matriculating. Assuming 90% yield, 400-500 admits = 360-450 class size, so maybe a bit of a bump up?

Done. I am officially in the R1. I have submitted my app and paid the fees. Got 2 recos submitted and third recommender promised that he is ready to submit by tonight. Happy with the way essays turned out so now just wait and watch. On a side note, I am visiting Stanford on 20 Oct as I am already in the area. I am taking a class visit too. Anyone in the area at the same time? Shiva
I believe interviews will be issued as they read applications, not in one slug like other schools. Does that make it better or worse? I guess it just is what it is.
I submitted this round as well.
Good luck everyone!

How long is TOO long for stanford? I know the 10+-% idea, but 80 seems too much. At the same time, 1800 is not enough
How much did you guys write?
I was about 20% over...I think total wordcount was around 2100. Talked to somebody from the Adcom about it and she said that it was important to get the message through while avoiding to abuse the limits

Wow 2100?! It seems like you're saying that your conversation with the adcom convinced you this was acceptable? If that's the case, then woohoo :D

I don't know, maybe my writing was not that efficient...but I decided not to cut anything from my essays as I would lose a part of the message.
For me 1800 was definitely not enough...compared to other schools, it was way too short!

guys, by the way...what is your app status right now?? just checking...
Status: Submitted
And for the prev discussion about word count. I got in with 1820 words. The essays looked good and seemed to flow well. Now work on minimizing my refreshes in email and also app status for next 2 months Shiva
Got it in! I squeaked by with 1796 words... I was actually surprised that I was able to squeeze essay 1 down to 650, because I really needed the space in essay 2 and 3C. Anyways, it feels good to have it out. I completely overhauled essay 1 about four times before finally submitting, so I'm glad that I won't have that to torment me anymore. Rotating onto the Booth app, and then all done for R1 Good luck everyone!
