Count me in for R2 (dinged after interview with Wharton last year) By the way anyone applying with your GRE scores? especially with the new format.

I'm actually going to ask them if I can submit both GRE and GMAT. Harvard has the option to enter both, but the Stanford app isn't clear on the issue. I couldn't find an answer online, so I'll probably give them a call at some point and ask.

thanks for the reply, Stanford does accept the GRE scores as an alternative to GMAT, they have given the information in "Application Requirements"

I'm in for R1!

I do have a question: Since, I'm taking the GMAT 9/28/11 and the due date for R1 is 10/06/11, do they accept the preliminary score and allow this to be a R1 app. when the official score comes in?

I attended an admissions event held by Stanford recently. A few notes -

What they claim a Stanford MBA candidate can expect -
1. a career with impact and a life with meaning
2. insane levels of greatness. never settle
3. personal transformation. not just an MBA factory.

Areas of focus
1. Critical analytical thinking - ability to create an argument and defend it.
2. Personal leadership . The slide contained a photo of Gandhi and it said - What would Gandhi do? Talked about the "touchy-feely" class
3. Innovative thinking
4. Collaborative culture. Grade non-disclosure - gives you the freedom to try out different things.
5. People - a. people whose brains scare you b. people whose brains help you.
6. Global understanding

A couple of key phrases(cliches?) I noted down
1. Demonstrated leadership potential
2. Someone who has sought out stretch roles

I got a question on the peer reference. How do you define a peer? Does it have to be someone who has the same or similar title as you?
I have to choose from two people - one who has a higher title than me at work, but is not a direct manager/supervisor, and the other is a person who supervised me for some extra-curricular work(who is just 1-2 years older than me). I do not know which one should be my peer reference and which one should be the 2nd recommender!

I do not know which one should be my peer reference and which one should be the 2nd recommender!

A peer should be someone you have worked closely with, and should not be your supervisor or subordinate. It does not have to be someone with the same or similar title. For example, I am one of two Business Analysts in my firm. I would either take a peer reference from the other Business Analyst, or the Operations Manager, with whom I interact with on a daily basis.
If you find it difficult to select which peer to go with, then you might want to look at it this way "who has some really good (real) stories about me that he/she can write about?"

PS: I realise that this reply is coming in a bit late, but hope it's still of some help.

Just submitted my app! Never before have I been so challenged, and worked so hard at an application. The what matter's most essay especially has been really difficult. I don't know how many times I had to scrap and restart - probably went through 30 drafts. So if any of you are having a tough time, you're not alone!

It's truly been a very introspective and rewarding experience. Stanford's always been a dream, and as competitive as it is, at least I know I've given it my best shot. No regrets.

Best of luck to everyone!
