I'm certain that I'll be applying to McCombs (Real Estate Finance), although I can't say that it's at the top of my wish list. I'm not sure that their program *exactly* fits my needs and professional interests.
That said, I've heard nothing but great things about Austin and UT and am looking forward to learning more about them!

Anyone else applying R1?
Texas is one of my two safeties. Looks like a fine place to pursue a dual degree, but it doesn't fit all the items on my wishlist. On the other hand, I hear Austin rocks. And their application fee website doesn't take Visa? Seriously?

I'll be applying in R1 too.
I just wanted to confirm with you guys about the application process.
The link for filling the online letters of recommendation will be sent to the recommenders only after we submit the application right? Or is there a way I can notify my recommenders before I submit the app (like it works with other schools)?

Is the optional essay meant strictly to explain something? or can we write about an experience we had or some other creative essay??

The recommendation form will not be sent out till you have submitted your application. This is similar to Emory's process. I did find a .pdf file though of the recommendation form. I sent it to my recommenders and told them to work on the recommendations using the pdf file and then once they receive the form via email, they can just copy and paste it.

Submitted my app on Monday!
Kellogg, Chicago, McCombs all done. Rice still left then I'm done. I guess if I get bored during the winter I may submit a RD2 app somewhere as well. Never know!

Does anyone know how strict McCombs is on word limits in its essays?
I know with some schools it seems OK to go over by up to 10%- is this the case with McCombs or is anything more than their stated maximum detrimental to your application?
Since we have to enter the essays into a text box rather than uploading them I feel like they may automatically count the words.

i just had my interview today - no tricky questions
1. why MBA, why mccombs
2. what qualities do you value in a leader, talk about leadership experience
3. frustrating experience at work
4. what will you contribute to mccombs
5. what are your strengths, weaknesses
couple other related questions ..interviewed by a 2nd year student - nice, relaxed interview

I guess I'm just an idiot because I can't even get my second recommender to submit. Also, they have not recieved my official transcript, which I sent last Monday. Oh well, I'll get it figured out.
