Oh I'm not sad. I never expected anything to come of my HBS app. I just had to take a shot.

Re: Calling all the Harvard Gurus - Fall'08 [#permalink]
The good news is that Harvard runs a very punctional process. They release all decisions at the same time, on the decision day. No calls until after decisions are released. For R1, they had said that they would try to release decisions at noon on the decision day. On the west coast, I believe mine came in at 8:30am (and boy, was 7-8:30am an hour a half of refreshing my mailbox...), so just a bit before the expected time. Granted, I was waitlisted, but I haven't heard a single account of anyone getting a call before d-day.

For my part, I really appreciated the all-at-once process. Far less stressing over the BW forums, watching calls roll in across the country. But yeah--expect to hear nothing until the decision day itself. Best of luck in keeping yourselves distracted until then. :) I'll be right with you, as they've announced there will be movement on the round 1 waitlist with the round 2 decisions. I'm not holding my breath, but I know I'll be up early, eagerly refreshing my mail anyway.

speaking of harvard, does anyone know if this year's b-school applicantions were part of the data lost to hackers? the article i read indicated that the info. stolen was from grad apps to the college of arts and sciences, but it did not appear as though the reporter, nor harvard was fully aware of the extent of the hacking (no mention of the b-school). apparently the server was not encrypted, making it easy to hack. way to eff up harvard -- you have the largest university endowment in the world and you can't even bother to protect your applicants.

HBS was not affected.

They clap? Maybe it's a consolation of sorts: "Everyone, please meet rca215, who is joining us today as a visitor. This will be his first and last time ever in an HBS classroom."

Hmm good point. I guess that's how it was for me. Either way, it was fun to get to go visit.

We clap for every visitor here, whether it's a visiting professor, somebody's friend just visiting town, or an applicant. It's an appreciation for your efforts to come visit HBS and it's unrelated to whether you'll get in or not (we haven't a clue).

If the visitor is close family (parents, siblings, spouse, etc.) we'll stand up while clapping. Otherwise, we clap while sitting down. If a person has an interview that day we may clap slightly stronger or give 'em a "woohoo" but still while sitting down. It's written on the survival guide that we clap for everything and anything. You don't notice after a while unless somebody points it out...

quick question guys, does HBS call those who are admitted? Or you will only know by e-mail? what about international folks? will they call/send decisions by taking into account the time differences?

Good luck to all the R2 applicants! All of the decisions will be released ~12PM Eastern on decision day. I received a call from my interviewer later in the day, it was a basic congratulations call.

I didn't make it to the R1 admit weekend, so I am hoping I can crash the R2 admit weekend and meet up with a couple of you.
