Hi Batman,

My plan is to apply to HBS and INSEAD in Round 3, thus I'm currently in the researching/writing phase. My goal is to work/live in Canada after graduation, so my priority was Canadian b-schools.

HBS and INSEAD are obviously incredible global brands (and I would have no trouble getting a job in Canada with a degree from either), however I had to prioritize my time/resources to maximize my likelihood of acceptance.

I will certainly keep the GMAT Club posted as my admissions journey evolves.

Cheers,

I have a query and will be grateful if someone can guideme. I applied to Rotman on Jan11 and received an email on jan 18 that my app was complete and ready to be reviewed. I have also been admitted into Richard Ivey. MBA at ivey starts on march 27. But i think that rotman is better fit for me. Currently I am waiting for Rotman's reply. Should I contact Rotman and request them to expedite the process as I have to take decision. Will it be interpreted negatively if I request them to hurry up, given they have not even invited me for interview as of yet.

Hi Sachin,

First-off, congratulations on your acceptance to Ivey! That's a fantastic b-school and has a particularly competitive admissions process -- quite an accomplishment!

As per your question, I can appreciate your hesitation. Given that you received confirmation from Rotman on January 18th that your application was complete, I do not believe that it is entirely unreasonable for you to inquire. Obviously, you'll have to phrase your questions rather diplomatically to avoid any negative interpretation. I would say that you've got an acceptance from another top b-school (that you need to respond to), but that you much prefer to go to Rotman. Then ask if there is anything that you can do to help them accelerate the decision process. Followed by the typical "I really appreciate any assistance", "Rotman is my top pick", "what a great school", blah blah blah

Hope this helps -- would be curious to hear your thoughts as to why Rotman instead of Ivey

Cheers,

HI Matt,
Thanks a lot for your suggestion. I want to make a career switch and hence I think 2 year program at Rotman with internship opportunity is a better fit for me than one year program at Ivey. Also, I am not canadian. Unlike Ivey, Rotman offers student loans to international students at subsidized rates. I have to decide by last week of feb if I am joining Ivey or not. I will wait till the end of this week to see if I hear anything from Rotman. If I dont, I will send them the mail on Monday.

Is it true that Rotman is going to increase their intake this year by another section, as they shift to their new centre for the September 2012 session?

I imagine that the admissions staff is busier than usual this year, to accommodate a whole new section to their usual intake.

Congrats sachintendua. It is nice to have options.

And yes Rotman is increasing the class size by 60-65. But it would be an across the board rise and I am sure there will be more staff on the admissions committee to handle it. I dont know of anyone who has faced any delays in the admissions process thu far. Rotmans turnaround time generally has been ahorter compared to other schools that i applied to.

I also have to add that all of the current students/alumni that i spoke to were not convinced that the increase in classsize will not affect job/internship prospects. The were particularly nervous about internship oppurtunities since apparantly it is already very competitive at rotman.

I heard the same concerns on the increase in class size. Did you get a chance to pose this as a question to the ad-com during your interview?
Are Rotman interviews blind or does the interviewer have access to the applicant's essays before the interview?

The member of the ad-com who interviews you has read all of your application materials, and has your resume in front of them while you are there. (aka not blind) I have interviewed at several schools, and the ad-com at Rotman is by far my favourite. I was interviewed by Bailey, who made me feel very at ease, and was very encouraging.

I had the chance to ask about the increase in class size at my interview, and was informed that the increase would be happening gradually, rather than all at once. With the increase in class size will also come an increase in recruiters, as there will be a greater pool of applicants for internships. This is not guaranteed, but this is what the ad-com said that they anticipate for the coming years. Personally, I like a little competition, and if your work history and academics are strong, I don't think it should be too much of a concern.

To find out more information about the increase in class size, and how it will affect you, definitely ask at your interview. (and if you wouldnt mind, share what you learn with us, as every ad-com member has a different opinion).

Best of luck with your interview!

Just had my interview with Rummy for the evening section, she used pretty much the questions that were posted here. She also mentioned that the increase enrolment is only for the full time program and has no impact on the part time class.

Hey Mattyboy, would you share some more insights on Richard Ivey....That is the school I am targeting next year. International applicant. Find their program competent to many reputed US schools (some which are already on my list). I am sure you must have done your researches adequately to be able to share some with us here.....thnx

Another admit here. Congrats to those who've got in!

I heard that the new Rotman building will be ready for the incoming class this fall - can anyone confirm that this is the case? Will all classes/activities be in the new building from now on? Its renderings look pretty sweet.

Also, can those who've received the Welcome packet let me know *what* information is inside? Like...list of courses? Program start date? Pre-program information?

Thanks. I'm not sure what you mean by "profile" but I've a good GPA (above 3.8) and 4-years WE in IB.

I hope to get the packets soon, as I need to decide between Rotman and a few others in M7.

Rotman site says scholarships will be offered at the time of admission notification. Wondering if this is the case or anyone who got admitted received it at a later stage?

Scholarship only at the time of notification. So if there's no mention of a scholarship in your acceptance letter, then you didn't get it.

I had my interview the Friday before the open house (Feb 3), and I am still awaiting my admissions decision - the wait is killing me!

Can anyone provide any insight into how long this process usually takes?
