Really, the want me to craft an essay about getting a US undergrad degree as a foreigner?!? I am curious, how are my fellow international students tackling this optional essay?

I am, I'm just stating I got X degree from Y school in City Z, USA. Y school uses English as medium of instruction. That's it, one line.

OK, so now I'm really confused. As a US citizen who went to a US school, do I need to check the "TOEFL waiver " box? I have no need to take the TOEFL but Wharton is making it seem like the default is to provide a TOEFL score unless you justify why you don't need it in the optical essay section.

Am I missing something here....?

No, it's mentioned under application instructions:
TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language): A complete command of the English language, including proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking is essential for success in Wharton's programs. All international applicants whose native language (language first learned and spoken at home) is not English, or who did not complete a degree from an institution where English was the language of instruction, are required to take the TOEFL in addition to the GMAT. If you believe that your situation warrants a waiver of the TOEFL, please provide an explanation in the optional essay.

I have never taken Prof. Grant's classes, but I hear the Prof is good.

Prof. Siggelkow is a brilliant strategist. Students generally rave about his classes. I would go and sit on one of his masterpieces.

Finance 601 is part of the core so unless you waive it, you must take it. FNCE601 covers all the essentials, and that in combination with FNCE602 is enough to start as an Associate at a bank. Needless to say that bankers usually waive both. There is also Advanced Corporate Finance: the course is rigorous and hands-on, all profs are cool; the best part is that Wharton profs love what they do, and those who teach enjoy doing so immensely.

Sorry if this has been answered already, but does anybody know where to input additional classes you have taken post-college graduation? In the education section it looks like they ask for only classes from places that contributed to a degree.

Thanks!

I called up Admissions yesterday and they said to put it under Education, just mark No Degree and list your mark where it states GPA. You can only do it for two classes though, so not sure if you have more.

Hope this helps

I thought I had all my stuff in order and then I get to the page where you are asked to provide "General Information". I better come up with 2 or 3 good, sharp sentences for the above questions.... just thought I share this little snippet so that people do not find out the hard way on October 4th

For all those that wonder what happens after you submit your application, but did not submit in R1. I just got the following email:

Quote:
Thank you for submitting your application for Round One.

The following will provide you with information concerning the processing of application materials, timeline for the release of interview invitations, and final decision releases.

If your online account reads "Complete - Round One," your application has all the required materials, has been processed by the Operations Team, and has been forwarded to the Committee for review.

If your online account reads "Received," then the Operations Team needs to process your online application submission and any materials submitted by hard copy. After your materials have been processed (assuming they arrived before the Round One deadline), your online account will be changed to "Complete for Round One" and your file will be forwarded to the Committee for review. Due to the high number of candidates who submitted their application during the past few days (more than 60% of candidates applying for Round One submitted their application within 24 hours of the deadline), it will take the Operations Team a couple of weeks to complete the processing of all materials. Therefore, please allow the Operations Team until Thursday, October 14th before inquiring about the completeness of your application.

The Admissions Committee will release interview invitations on Friday, October 29th and again on Friday, November 5th. Due to the nature and complexity associated with the admissions process there is no particular order in which invitations are released. Also on November 5th, the Committee will release all final admissions decisions to candidates that are not being invited for an interview and therefore no longer being considered for admission.

If you are invited for an interview, you will need to complete your interview by Friday, December 3rd. Interviews will be available on campus with second-year Wharton MBA Students who are full members of the Admissions Committee, off campus with alumni, and off campus in various "Hubs" around the world by Admissions staff members. All interview options are equally considered within the admissions process.

Candidates who are offered an interview will receive their final admissions decision by 5:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time on Friday, December 17th.

Thank you again for applying to Wharton. We look forward to reading your application.

Sincerely,

I suppose that will be similar for the following rounds. Just thought I'd share

Xerox,

For the benefit of all, would you please share some insights on interview preparation? And on modified interview at Wharton?

Thanks

This year you should prepare for a behavioral interview in addition to the regular admissions interview.

Anyone else having trouble focusing at work? I can't stop thinking about the day of reckoning, imagining myself logging in to the website and seeing the ding/invite.

The last thing b-schools are looking for is the price-tag on your suit. As long as you are comfortable in your element (don't dress up in a hoddie) you're just fine. They're betting on people, not clothes.

With that said, if you're comfortable in rags and dirty shoes, they're probably not gonna bet on you. A lot comes down to how one carries him / herself.

Suits do not matter, they do not increase your chance of being admitted: zero impact. Wear your work suit, make sure you are clean and neat - that's all.

If I were you, I would spend money on visiting the school, i.e. the best interview prep in the world, instead.

Anyone know where we can find a list of Wharton's electives?

A current student might be able to provide the best links but this is what I've come up with in my own research:

http://www.wharton.upenn.edu/mbaresource/courseindex/

You can also play around to find concentration specific sites such as this:

First post in this thread, and I don't mean to continue down the tangent, but just one last thing regarding suits. I don't think price tag is important, but for gods sakes get it tailored. Attention to detail says a lot about a person. I was once dinged from an internship because I forgot to label one of the axes on a graph I made (during an interview test)...the reason..."you showed a lack of a attention to detail". Lesson learned.

Anyway, I'll be applying RD2

GPA 3.2 top 3 pub (humanities), GRAD 3.7 (ivy), 3.5 years real estate dev and solar industry, post mba social enterprise (my master's is related), GMAT dec. 16., AGE: 28

I don't think it needs to be tailored, just so long as you feel comfortable and confident in it.

But good luck with R2! I also work in real estate as well, so I definitely want to wish good luck to a fellow RE guy.

Friday noon EST will be Sat 5am for me - this might be the first time ever I'm gonna wake up without hitting the snooze button at least once! Or maybe I'll just pull an all nighter n work on my R2 apps so even if I get a ding I'll be tired and can sleep it off.

You guys are creating too much anxiety for yourselves. My mentality is submit it and forget it. If I get an interview great, if I don't...there's always next year.

I made a correction to my post after you had quoted the original (see above). The quote from the Admissions' email is: "We begin inviting candidates to interview on October 29th." That is one week away.

Ah sorry about that, gave me a scare!

Xerox, thanks for the update. Any info on how the applicants are split up between the 29th and the 5th and the purpose of having two dates? Is it completely random?
