Interesting! So, ncprasad, are you planning to apply to a mix of FT and PT programs this fall? Are you looking at a backup to the Berkeley PT also (Considering that the Berkeley PT is arguably the most competitive program to get into .. specially for some over-represented demographics)?
I was also thinking about applying PT when my green-card process seemed to fall in a limbo. But I am now focusing on FT only.

I dont consider berkeley PT a back up and I dont have a back up for UCB PT. I am planning to take my chances.
My FT portfolio looks like this.
HBS, MIT, Ross,Cornell.
My no.1 choice is MIT. HBS is a hail mary.Between Ross, Cornell and UCB, I will choose UCB anyday. Mainly because I am not a career changer and my post MBA goal is an amalgamation of entrepreneurship and social responsibility. UCB beats Ross and Cornell hands down in these areas. Add to this, the opportunity cost of a FT MBA. UCB provides me the opportunity to work part-time while planning for my post MBA company launch.
I attended a UCB info session and spent some time with both the admissions director and a few current students. I came away with a nice feeling and will have no hesitation going to UCB ahead of Ross and Cornell.

Do you think that you'll be able to spend more time in the PT program than just attending the classes (Considering you'll be working FT too)? Have you made some plans about "going beyond attending the classes"?
ps. Sorry for hijacking the thread a little

My post may have been somewhat unclear. I will not work FT when I attend UCB PT. I will do freelance consulting(20 hrs) and get as much out of UCB as possible.
I already have a consulting business on the side and although I am currently doing pro bono, I will probably do paid consulting for new clients.

Thanks mNeo. Now, dont spoil my UCB dream by applying. I have got enough competition as it is. mNeo wrote: Sounds like a very good plan. All the best

Haha, I'm not Indian, can I apply?
But it's nice that you're already doing entrepreneurship stuff. I want to get into it and am now doing some research (interviews) on what exactly that career entails.

Was it an on-campus session? I went to one at UCB and it felt like there was a final going on. I tired to mingle a bit with others and they were not having it. Students filed in, talked about UCB and left. The AdCom just went though the powerpoint.
I've been thinking about going to an off-campus to do exactly as you said above.

Quote: Hi Naturallight! Would love to meet up with you sometime. When will you be moving on campus? I heard the math camp starts on August 6th, my friend will be attending that.
Yeah, I'm sure we could work something out. Just PM me.
I'm not moving down until a couple days before orientation, which means I'm not going to math camp. Not sure if this was the best decision, because apparently the social aspect of math camp is really fun. I guess there's a only few hours of classes in the AM, and then all of the students go golfing or go to the pool or something like that before heading to the bars.
So instead of studying math, I'm going to focus on something else to prepare for b-school education--getting my tolerance up! Cheers!

This post is from someone who has been a silent spectator of the GMAT club for the past year or so. Sorry, that I have not contributed much to any discussions. I am planning to apply to Berkeley for Fall 2008 as well. Although I did not do too well on my first attemp, I am still going to start my application. I am planning to retake my GMAT sometime in September. Can we form a small GMAT club group of the applicants who are applying to Berkeley for 2008 Fall and who are in the Bay Area?

Yup, I'm in the bay area. Work and live in the south bay. Would love to meet up with some potential Cal folks!
to zakk, I will report on how the infosession goes, but my roommate went to a Berkeley PT infosession down here in Palo Alto, and he said that he was one of only three non-Indian IT person in the room. So I guess if you're Indian, the off-campus infosessions are probably more social. Just a suggestion.

Well, if anyone is there on Saturday, PM me before Friday afternoon and we'll look for each other. Maybe there's some "GMAT Club" hat we can wear?
