Hello,
I had my phone interview today with adcom, standard questions:

walk me through your resume
why MBA, why now
long and short term goals
why Booth
leadership experience
how will you contribute to Booth (talked about clubs I will join)

felt it went well (like all the others :-D )

Good luck to all, the waiting begins...

Good luck for those in the R1 race!

On a side note, yesterday we received an email announcing that Ted Snyder will end his tenure as Dean in June/2010. So the school will have a new dean when you guys start school.

Rhyme, you won't believe about the bidding:

Macro with Erik Hurst:
R1 10,000
R2 15,275
R3 16,795

Economic Analysis of Major Policy Issues with Becker/Murphy/Snyder R1 6,611
R2 10,010
R3 23,722

Marketing Strategy with Dhar:
R1 4,001
R2 20,000
R3 13,238
REALLY?

NVS with Schrager (it's fair, I will take this class on spring quarter and if I have to I pay 20k):
R1 9,011
R2 15,888
R3 20,229

I Was reading through the November 18th chat and came across this post from Carrie Lydon, Associate Director of Admissions at Chicago Booth. Interesting that Rose reads each application before an interview is granted.

Carrie: Hi Mani. Every application is read between 3-6 times during the admissions process, including a full read by Associate Dean Rose Martinelli. Our Admissions Fellows (trained second year students) do the first read of every application. The applications are then turned over to an admissions director, who thoroughly reads the file and makes a recommendation for an interview. At that point, Rose reads all files to make sure that the decisions were accurate. Post interview, all applications are read by at least one additional admissions director. We include various readers to ensure that we are including diverse perspectives in the process.

For those of you with admits, I present to you my savings account during those two years, excluding tuition.

I know I'm forgetting some trips, there's another Bahamas in there somewhere, but I'm not sure where. I'm also guessing at to which bar is what, but you get the idea.

I have a question about Booth's 1st question that is :How did you choose your most recent job/internship and how did this experience influence your future goals?

I am confused about how to approach this question. Should I specifically say what offers I had at the time I was choosing my most recent job(such as although I had Offers from company X and Y etc) and then describe why I chose this job.

Or should I just give reasoning as to why I chose this job. For example ....I wanted this this and this from my job and since company X offers this I joined here.
Thanks in advance and hope my question is clear.

They don't care what offers you had, I would focus on what it is you want to do and how your job fit into those goals. Focus more on why you were (or are) interested in X than on exactly how company A fit into X. Don't ignore why company A, but really 80% of your focus should be on what it is that interests you and perhaps 20% (if that) should be on how company A "fit" that interest. Make sense?

I'll do you one better. I didn't get a single penny my first year, and even with a 3.98 GPA I didn't get one of 10 academic scholarships awarded in the second year.

Fanatically allocating set word counts for each section of your essay does not seem like a good strategy to me. Just bullet point your structure, write it and make sure it's within 110% of the overall limit when you're done. The "break-down" depends on the story you're telling.

For the "why recommenders" question, just concisely state a reason why the recommender is in a good position to assess yur leadership (we worked in a team, he was my supervisor, my supervisor does not know I'm applying but this other guy also knows me professionally because X, etc)

OOh Boy. powerpoint is indeed a killer. They say dont repeat the info but how the h*ll we find more info. The ECs and accomplishments are already coverd in their respective section on the online app. + Goals and and professional life is covered in goals essay. Not sure how you guys are filling 4 ppt without repeating _any_ info thats already there in application or resume. Any suggestions from sucessful candidates. Thanks in advance!

Rao,

The idea is not to repeat things you already talked about in your essays I talked about my trips, my passions, my ECs in the PPT.

Anyways, mine was 99% pictures + captions...I tried to add color to my personality and what I did outside of the office. Talked a bit about ECs, showed who my friends were, how my family influenced me....

Another thing, doesn't have to be 4 slides...4 is the max, I used only 3...

Hope it helps

if you need further help, PM me...

Did anyone else got that mail?

Mine still hasn't changed either. Its been 2 weeks. should it take this long? My Wharton App was marked complete in 2 days. :|

Mine is also still "received." Still, worry not. Here's an excerpt from the form e-mail they sent me a week ago (you should have received it too):

Quote:
Received - This means that we've received your materials. Your status may not be changed to "Received" for about two weeks after the application deadline. If your status does not read "Received" by January 20, contact us at admissions@ChicagoBooth.edu

Complete - This means that all required information has been received and physically placed in your file by the operations team. If your application status doesn't read "Complete" by January 27, please contact us at admissions@ChicagoBooth.edu

Nothing to worry about yet.
