Tough luck gmat_march & nupur. Stern has been a real tough nut to crack this year.
Only one admit so far from the "club". I am sure bsd will make it 2.
Good luck to others.
Now that Chicago GSB is done, I will have to step up my efforts to get out of the WWI list.

I'm considering visiting Stern (and New York) the week of the 3/31. I'm waitlisted and want to show my love :kiss to the school. That week happens to work well with my work schedule, but I also realize final decisions for Rd2 are released on 4/1.

Do you think this would be a good time to visit?

Re: Calling Stern/NYU Applicants [#permalink]
I don't think that is the true final decision date. I remember getting admitted after April, having interviewed at the end of March. Maybe my mind is playing tricks on me though. And WL follows a whole different way at any school, so I think you can use it as the base of sending a letter about how wonderful it was or what have you.

If you are visiting, let them know. Phone them and ask if they can set anything up. If not, and you want to try with Stern going forward (next year, whatever) I can happily meet with you to try and give you a feel for the school.

Which reminds me that bsd is in town soon. I better get in touch with him.

Thanks for the comments. I spoke with adcom Friday afternoon. I don't know if it was just late in the day or what, but the gal that I spoke with on the phone seemed pretty cold. Maybe I'm wrong, but I get the sense that a visit from a waitlisted candidate is going to have minimal marginal returns on my status, especially given the application volume increases this year (or so we hear!). My hunch is that schools will utilize the waitlist less, if at all, this app season. Perhaps I will regret this, but I don't think the $1,000 to fly out to NY for two nights is worth it. I will atill submit a love letter to NYU, but unless I hear some stories from current students, admits, or alums that would make me believe otherwise, no trip to the city for me.

Re: Calling Stern/NYU Applicants [#permalink]
It's disheartening to know that you weren't granted an interview, but I don't think you should give up.
Just because your telephone conversation didn't go well last Friday, I don't think you should weigh your decision to visit the school on that. He/She probably answers phone inquiries non stop. I know $1000 is a lot of money, but if you truly believe that you can leave a trace after visiting, I would recommend it. You never know, your name might pop up and that'll be the little push you've been waiting for. I think if NYU is your ultimate dream school, it'll be worth it to pay them a visit. Just to show them how interested you are. (not that second visit confirms your interest in any school)
Have you already attended info session & sat in on a class visit?
