Confused btw c and b.
Again, b sounds similar to the conclusion of the argument.
So c maybe.

Hi! Let me help you. :)

(B) Apart from differences in resolution, there is no practical difference among modern cameras in the quality of the images that they produce.

The conclusion states: "Differences between cameras in this respect (from sentence 1: the degree of detail the lens is capable of reproducing in the image it projects onto the film) are irrelevant for practical photography."
So, the argument only mentions that difference in lens resolution is irrelevant. There might be other differences, but the argument does not mention the other differences.

The main point is about the resolution of the camera being irrelevant.

The reasoning why the resolution of the camera is irrelevant is explained with an example. So, option E cannot be the answer because it is focusing on the film reproduction than the resolution of the camera.

Re: Camera manufacturers typically advertise their products by citing [#permalink]

Why "E" is wrong.

Main point of the passage -
Differences in the resolution among modern camera lenses' are irrelevant as all of these cameras can produce the best possible developed image.

Option E in simpler words -
The Quality of Developed Image is based on two parameters - 1) The amount of details produced by photographic films; 2). Resolution of the camera. 1st parameter is more significant than 2nd.

Are these two colored statements similar in any way? Absolutely not.

Hope you're clear on this now. Cheers.

Although above explanations to your queries are great, would still like to clarify something you missed.
This is what argument says:
Quote:
since all modern lenses are so excellent that they project far more detail onto the film than any photographic film is capable of reproducing in a developed image

This means ability of photographic film is stagnated at some level. So even if we increase the resolution, it won't help as photographic films cant show the level of details captured. If modern lenses take 100 pixel per inch, then photographic films cant show more than 80 pixels per inch. Then conclusion says even if we take camera with lens of 200 pixel per inch resolution, its use as photographic tool is limited.

Choice E is extreme:
Quote:
Differences among photographic films in the amount of detail they reproduce have a more significant effect on the quality of the developed image than do differences in the resolution of camera lenses.

See the illogical comparison? We can't compare the amount of detail produced by photographic films and camera lenses, as one is used for image development and other is used for image capture. It is not apple to apple comparison!

Hope I helped!

Your reasoning to explain why E is wrong is invalid because you assumed what you seek to establish.

Re: Camera manufacturers typically advertise their products by citing [#permalink]
Camera manufacturers typically advertise their products by citing the resolution of their camera’ lenses, the resolution of a lens being the degree of detail the lens is capable of reproducing in the image it projects onto the film. Differences between cameras in this respect are irrelevant for practical photography, however, since all modern lenses are so excellent that they project far more detail onto the film than any photographic film is capable of reproducing in a developed image.

Which one of the following most accurately states the main point of the argument?

(A) Camera manufacturers ought to concentrate on building other desirable qualities into their cameras’ lenses, rather than concentrating only on the lenses’ resolution. X

(B) Apart from differences in resolution, there is no practical difference among modern cameras in the quality of the images that they produce. X

(C) Advertised differences among cameras in the resolution of their lenses have no practical bearing on the cameras’ relative quality as photographic tools. CORRECT

(D) In concentrating their advertising on the issue of image quality, manufacturers are making a mistake about the interests of potential purchasers of cameras. X

(E) Differences among photographic films in the amount of detail they reproduce have a more significant effect on the quality of the developed image than do differences in the resolution of camera lenses. X
