Sounds like you have a lot of really great experience that is directly related to the Consortium's mission. If I were you I would definitely apply through the Consortium if that is what you want to do. I don't think anybody would look down on it at all given your experiences and even an award to back it up. Best of luck!!

I went to a Consortium event in NYC a couple of weeks ago. There were definitely a good number of Indian prospective candidates. You've worked toward the Consortium's mission so that makes you eligible to apply through the Consortium. Please do so. And join the Consortium thread :-)

The consortium mission reflects helping the underrepresentation of african american, hispanic and native americans. If your volunteer history fits that, then you should apply.
