Sounds like you have a lot of really great experience that is directly related to the Consortium's mission. If I were you I would definitely apply through the Consortium if that is what you want to do. I don't think anybody would look down on it at all given your experiences and even an award to back it up. Best of luck!!

I went to a Consortium event in NYC a couple of weeks ago. There were definitely a good number of Indian prospective candidates. You've worked toward the Consortium's mission so that makes you eligible to apply through the Consortium. Please do so. And join the Consortium thread

The consortium mission reflects helping the underrepresentation of african american, hispanic and native americans. If your volunteer history fits that, then you should apply.
