Brief of My Profile:

GMAT: 670 (Q 49, V 33) -84%

Experience: 9.5 years in Telecom VAS domain in presale, Business Analysis, product management & marketing

Present status: Doing election campaign for a Major Trade Union ( which has almost 1 million members and covers 7 major states of India) headed by my father. Election is in last week of this month. (Major reason for low GMAT score). I Will finish this task by 1st week of May, 2013. Thus, instead of going back to regular job, I want to do an MBA (have some good reasons and fact to justify and support this)

Last two roles: Worked as Head Presales –SAARC and Regional Manager Presales – South Asia.

International experience:
1. China (selected out of 300 people to work in Nanjing for Supporting Key international projects including Vivo Brazil – a major win for VAS division),
2. Indonesia (selected out of 300 people to work in Jakarta to support Major Bids of Telkom and telkcomsel
3. SAARC countries: Successfully spearheaded deals in following countries - Nepal, Bangladesh, Srilanka and Maldives
4. Several Business trips and trainings in UK. Did my Master’s from King’s College London, Uni. Of London

Forums & Seminars:

1. Was in Speaker panel in VAS ASIA and VAS India
2. Head of organizing Committee and Host of ZTE VAS forums held in Delhi and Mumbai in 2004 & 2005. Attend by all Senior management staff of all the Telecom operators (including CIO, VP, GM etc)
3. Conducted guest lecturers in local B- schools with a senior educationist ( Cambridge alumni)

Research paper:
Co-authored a research paper published in one of the renowned Canadian journal

Target Schools: ( I want to start my MBA in this year. )
1. LBS
2. SAID
3. Judge
4. INSEAD ( I don’t want to wait till Jan -2014. But just for backup)
5. IMD ( I don’t want to wait till Jan -2014. But just for backup)

Education:

- Masters Degree in Science (M.Sc.) – Advance Software Engineering from Kings College London, U.K. Received “Award of Merit” (Given to top 10% students in class) in Masters degree from King’s College London, University of London

Oh man, you definitely win the prize for the best post title of the month.
Flattery will get you everywhere my friend.

First of all let me say that you have some really great stuff that we don't see too much of - like your political work for the trade union, public speaking, publishing papers, that can make you a great candidate and give you a shot at the best of schools, even the ones you listed. Why do I say CAN??? Because there are two issues (thankfully fixable) which if you want to be a strong candidate need to be addressed:

1. GMAT - you know this already, but really you have some great stuff, why let your great profile be torpedoed by a GMAT that is just too low to get you in. Take one two months and retake. Take a year or even two. But come back with that 710+ and all of a sudden you will be in the running.

2. Work - You need to have a plan and a concrete position once you finish this union thing in May. Schools don't like it when you apply without a job cause it can mean that you would be unemployed for a whole year and a half before you go to school. Land yourself a good job BEFORE you apply, even if you know you will only stay for a year.

Thanks for your honest reply & time.

I think it is always good to make things little bit interesting for the concern person. As most of the admission consultant are here on this forum to find more and more clients. Thus , i chose the post title as per your interest.

Anyways, my response for the two points you highlighted:

1. Job: Yes. Even I am planning to do job after May. As, I will have atleast 4 months before the Course starts in Sep/ Nov 2013. (assuming that I will get admission)

2. GMAT: All the schools I am planning to apply has there deadline in this month. This is one of the reason I thought of not re-taking it now. Another reason, the average GMAT score in Judge & Said is 680. And GMAT range in LBS is 600-730 and average is 698 (https://www.london.edu/programmes/mba/ap ... aphic.html).

Therefore, I am taking a chance to apply and save one year, as I believe that with strong Application and my strong academic record: Got Merit (given to Top 10%) in my Masters from King's College, got University rank 6th (out of 600 students from all the state colleges), Got above 80% in international standardized exams like Microsoft Certification (88%) & Oracle Certification (82%).

And if to the worst I didn't got any admit then I will for sure re-take GMAT. Does it makes sense? Please provide your profound and honest reply. Thanks in advance for your time and reply

Hey there,

So this is great news. The amount of time you will be int he job is less important than the fact that you should have one!

Aha! I see. I thought you would be applying this year. The first three schools will be a real challenge as they have filled almost all their spaces already, and usually in order to get in at the later rounds, you have to have a far stronger profile than int he early rounds. But if it is worth it to you then give it a shot, and if it doesn't work out, you can always retake the GMAT in the summer. And yes, it is true that the GMAT mean in these schools ranges from 680-700. But keep two things in mind: 1. Chinese applicants tend to have a far higher average than the overall average (it's all the hard work!) 2. IF you have a lower GMAT, you need to have a better something else.

Anyhow, I think your plan makes sense. I'd recommend staring to focus on INSEAD and IMD because they are in earlier rounds. You might think about HEC if the school appeals to you as it would be the same story. For the first three, I would leave out LBS, because it is so tough to get into anyway, and I don't think you will have time for all five schools.
