Hi guys, I am from India and planning to do a MBA from a top 10 B-school in the US. Can you guys evaluate my profile and suggest me weather I have any real world chance of getting in a top university, or am I just wasting my time. My Profile:
-Age: 24
-Bachelor's in Commerce (GPA 5 out of 7)
-Gmat: 740
-Master's in Commerce (GPA 6.3 out of 7)
-CFA Level 3 cleared
-ACCA cleared
-Have 3 years of work experience in a finance firm
-Good recommendations from 2 of my seniors and one colleague
-Been doing social service for 2 years
-Extra Curriculars in Martial arts and Abacus (Don't know if these matter)
According to me, everything in my profile is good except my GPA which is 5 out of 7 or equivalent to 2.96 in the US. Will this low GPA hamper my chance for any ivy-league school inspite the rest of my profile? Can I do any courses to make my profile more attractive?
I really need help guys. I have to decide which colleges to apply to, and I am confused on weather or not I should just apply in the top 10. Are top 5 out of question for such low GPA? Is top 15 a more realistic goal?
Well first of all, the mistake that many Indian applicants make (yourself included) is to think that it's just the stats that matter. But when applying to B-school it's the STORY and the details that matter as well. So first of all it is hard for me, or anyone to evaluate where you might get in without more info on WHO you are, what you want, what you actually DID at work, how successful you are, what you did as far as ECs or volunteer work... etc.
But stats do of course ALSO matter, and with your low GPA you will not get into any Top 10 school. Even Top 20 will be difficult. Which is fine, because depending on your goals, there are likely dozens of other fantastic schools out there that you can reach. But it will help to be realistic from the start.
Best,
Jon
