Hi,
Can i get a good university on the basis of Quant score only ?
I am looking for the MS in finance.

jainnikhil02,

Can give you a better recommendation if you reveal a little bit more about your profile - how is your undergrad performance like, what did you graduate in, details about your work ex. I would think that 570 is a score you should look to improve anyway (try and get it up to about 650 at least), but if there are constraints around that, you can take a shot with 570 and 49Q.

Some schools I would talk about (tentatively) at this stage include SSE (Stockholm School of Econ) and CBS (Copenhagen Business School), but both of them are very particular about your app if not as much about the GMAT score, so you will have to make sure that you prepare an app which is fantastic for both of these.

Hi,

Thanks for your Reply.
I have completed Engineering in 2009 with 77%. And Currently working in a IT Industry.
I have around 2 and half year experience in IT. Mean while i have completed Distance learning PGDIM( Insurance Management ) from SCDL, Pune.
I also have a GRE Score of 1080, but the same thing there as 800 in quant and rest in verbal. I dont know what goes wrong with me in Verbal part. I have given GRE in 2007.

Can you please let me know if you need some more info.

jainnikhil02,

Hmmm......close to call. Way it turns out, your test scores are actually NOT the stumbling block. Most places you target will be ok with the 800 in quant (GRE) and even the GMAT score, though a 600+ would have definitely helped there. Nevertheless, even a 570 with 49Q will be good enough.

Your issue is not having a bachelor's in business/finance/economics. Most MS in Finance programs will require an undergraduate background in these subjects OR relevant work experience. Your undergraduate bachelors is in engineering but the PGDIM in insurance will help.

Judging from all the previous apps I have worked on for the schools I mentioned, I think you will still stand a chance. The key will be in how you frame your application. For instance, I know SSE is very particular about the courses that you have done, besides just your work-ex. Make sure that you tie in your education and work-ex closely to your future goals and your test score potential.

Finally, if it is only the top ranked US programs you want to target, then I would recommend higher scores to be able to do that.
