Can I use this as a letter of recommendation? [#permalink]
28 May 2012, 19:48
I have a question about one of the recommendations I want to use for an MBA application. In my last year college, I was selected to be a the sole loan officer for a student loan fund of over $100,000. I had my own office in the Office of the Dean of Students and distributed short term, interest free loans to undergraduate and graduate students. I was thinking of getting a recommendation from the Dean of Students talking about this position in his office, to supplement my other recommendations.
So my question is: Even though this position was held during my senior year of college, could I still use it as an MBA recommendation to show leadership qualities?

Unless you are planning to apply directly from undergrad (which I do not recommend), I would say no. Adcoms expect LORs to be from people who have observed you in a professional (or in some cases EC leadership) capacity post undergrad. If you already have professional recs lined up I would not send additional ones. Only submit what the school asks for. Posted from my mobile device

It really depends on how far out of school you are. But if this person worked with you in a professional basis, you could ask them. Adcoms want to see a recommendation letter from someone that is familiar with your work product. So the best people would be current or previous bosses. If you are only 1-2 years out of school, this might be someone you can use.
