Can this be a failure essay? [#permalink]
25 Nov 2012, 13:52
Hi everyone!
I am preparing for the "failure" essay and I am actually stuck. I cannot think of anything that was a real / great failure, especially at work.
I was thinking of writing about high school group projects and how by not organizing the process well from the beginning and selecting wrong group members, I was ending doing the whole project alone. I could back up this experience by saying that looking back after these experiences I have learnt how to "recruit" peers to work with and when working with people not that motivated or qualified I was preparing a plan to make sure that everyone was contributing his/her best to the final outcome. and that this was one of the reasons I was also eager to learn more on leadership, organization skills, etc....
Please leave your comment if this can be considered a failure essay.
Thank you in advance for all your help!

Writing an essay about a high school experience is not advisable. Most schools look for examples from your work experience -- if this essay is for MIT, they look for examples from the past 3 years of your life. Posted from my mobile device

Agreed with aerien - Best to source examples from professional experiences.
You're not alone. I found it hard at first since I move between different projects at work, so I didn't take the time to reflect while in those project roles. After breaking down the experiences into smaller chunks and taking a step back to reflect, I found a few stories that I could use in my essays.

Unless a school asks for work specific failures, a personal failure could work (I went this route for one of my essays). But, yeah, a failed group project in HS is not compelling or recent enough IMO.
