Past progressive (2 cases)
1.While i was driving,my friend was eating wafers.( while+sub+was+verb+ing,sub+was+verb +ing)
2.I was taking rest when my room mate came.(sub+was+verb+ing+when+sub+verb3form).

in eg 2,whereas can be used in place of when , if the two vers are logically not similar

Where is used to refer place.

The rabbits make their borrows where they get adequate water.

Hi there,

Conjunction “while” denotes two functions:
1. Presents contrast
2. Presents simultaneous action.

In performing both the actions, “while” can be used to begin the sentence. For example:

a. While going to school, Joe ran into my childhood friend.
In this sentence, “while” presents simultaneous action. Joe was going to school. When this action was happening, something else happens as well. Joe ran into his childhood friend.

b. While he acknowledged the selfless charity, Joe refused to take money from his rich friends.
In this sentence, “while” is presenting a contrast. Joe acknowledged the charity his friends were extending him, but he did not take the money form them.

Hope this helps.
Thanks.

While + clause = subordinate clause. Therefore, we have to add independent clause to the subordinate one.

In the following example from egmat:
a. While going to school, Joe ran into my childhood friend.
In this sentence, “while” presents simultaneous action. Joe was going to school. When this action was happening, something else happens as well. Joe ran into his childhood friend.

--> while is a conjunction that starts a subordinate clause. Therefore, it has to contain full S and V. In the above example, "while going to school" does not have subject, is it incorrect?
Can anyone help me explain this one? Thanks a lot!
