Hi Paul

I'm currently working on my HBS essays. I do have a general question however.

I know that I need to produce a compelling argument for my career change from Engineering to IB. My question is, would it be acceptable that my decision to switch careers was borne of fairly recent events or does this new-found passion have to have developed over a longer period of time?

In my case, my interest in the field extends a few years back, however my decision to actually make the switch was more recent.

My other challenge is that there is no room to explain this in any of HBSs essays other than the additional information essay, is that fine?

Hosam,

It depends on how recent we're talking about. If it was within the last few months then they may be skeptical of the depth of your career-change decision. If it was 6 months or more ago and you have spent that time doing due diligence on the new career (e.g., informational interviews with people in the field) then it's OK.

I don't see why you couldn't explain this Why question in HBS essay 6 on goals. Otherwise, yes, essay 7.

Good luck,
