Certain car averages 25 miles/gal in the city and 40

Certain car averages 25 miles/gal in the city and 40 miles/gal on the highway. According to these rates, which of the following, is closest to the # of miles/gal that the car averages when it is driven 10miles in the city & then 50 miles on highway?

Answer is 36...I keep getting 38!

Please explain.

Fuel spent in city in driving 10 miles = 10/25 = 2/5 gallons

Fuel spent on highway in driving 50 miles = 50/40 = 5/4 gallons

Total fuel spent = 2/5 + 5/4 = 33/20 gallons
Total miles driven = 60

Average = 60/(33/20) = 400/11 = 36.36 which is closer to 36.

total gallons = 10/25 + 50/40
avg mileage = 60/total gallons = 36.3636
