I would go with (B) The sentence is about Charles, what the Charles viewed. So let him be the focus of the sentence so (B) is preferred than (C).
Whats the OA?

To me (B), (C) and (E) seem fine, particularly (B) and (C) E should be out immediately. E -wordy and awkward. C distorts meanings.

The answer is B
But I don't understand why C is not appropriate. The focus of the sentence could be on many Victorian authors.

B
As for C - Many Victorian authors, like Charles Dickens Charles Dickens cannot be like many victorian authors.... he can be one of the victorian authors.

the ans is B here is why: A and E are out because a modifier (like many...) must touch a noun (Charles Dickens) it modifies. D is passive C changes the meaningdifference between like and such as: - such as = for example - like = similar to "Many Victorian authors, like Charles Dickens" means "Many Victorian authors, similar to Charles Dickens" but not necessarily Charles himself… another way to look at it: keep in mind that the original sentece has CD as a subject and compares him to other authors but C does not compare authors to CD. yhc25 wrote: Charles Dickens viewed inadequate sanitation, as many Victorian authors, as a pressing and dangerous problem in London.
(A) Charles Dickens viewed inadequate sanitation, as many Victorian authors, as (B) Charles Dickens, like many Victorian authors, viewed inadequate sanitation as (C) Many Victorian authors, like Charles Dickens, viewed inadequate sanitation as (D) Inadequate sanitation was viewed by Charles Dickens, like many Victorian authors, as (E) Charles Dickens was like many Victorian authors in that he viewed inadequate sanitation as
To me (B), (C) and (E) seem fine, particularly (B) and (C)

To me (B), (C) and (E) seem fine, particularly (B) and (C) B. Both are gramatically correct. The isssue is only about the logic. * It is more logical that Charles Dickens can be similar to many Victorian authors. * It is less likely that many Victorian authors are similar to Charles Dickens.
