I have a question which is a bit difficult to answer, especially considering that the people with a good answer may not be engaged in this thread any more.
How accurate was your impression of your chances of acceptance with respect to how your interview went. So in other words, did anyone feel like they bombed the interview, but got accepted despite that? Or conversely, was anyone surprised that they didn't get accepted after what they thought was a stellar interview?
As you can tell, I'm not over-thinking this at all... not at all :p
I know it won’t help for someone else to reiterate that the interview is just one part of your application, but that’s absolutely true. I’d also say that your personal impression of how the interview went can be inaccurate.
For Booth I felt my interview went so-so and didn't think I made a great impression, but after being admitted I found out that my interviewer thought my interview went very well (wish I'd picked up on that!). For Haas I thought my interview went poorly – I didn’t go down in flames, but there was no connection with the alum and judging by her body language and closing comments, it just didn’t click. I thought I had no chance until I got the phone call, and later I talked with other local admits who happened to have the same interviewer and they had similarly bad impressions of the interview. Sometimes the rest of your app is strong enough to make up for a sub-par interview, and sometimes your interviewer puts up a wall because he/she doesn't want to appear invested or swayed, which can come across as a little cold and disapproving. For CBS my interview went extremely well, and my interviewer responded to my thank you note by telling me he thought I’d be a great fit and that he would definitely recommend me. CBS dinged me.
It’s a bit of a crapshoot, and you’re going to overanalyze and search for patterns because that's what the type of people who apply to b-schools do. But your side of the process is done, so take a deep breath and relax (easier said than done, I know), and good luck!
